well......mid eighties to early nineties, I didn't know much about cars back then. But I always liked the Ferrari Testarossa, I just saw those big slits on the sides and thought "man that thing must be fast".

As a very young child i rember always wanting a lambo or a ferrari of some kind (ihad heaps of hot wheels cars of them) and that all changed when i got a model of a pontiac Trans Am from about theage of 11 (this was also strenghthend when i saw smokey and the bandit) and i still wouldent mind a 78 model the best lookign ing my opion though would love a 76 mainlybecause it came out with the 455. Now thats been replaced by wanting to own a GT Falcon and now i think the GT40 is the best car ever produced how things do change...

And the De Tomaso Panteras are sweet cars i really have a soft spot for them.

all i can remember about that issue, is that from as early as i can remember, i have always wanted to own at least one of every single car in the world !!
from custom made lamborghinis to corollas !!
and yes, i was always a greedy child !!

12-25-2003, 10:20 PM
ok , i really squeezed my mind. i remember always wanting that white Mercedes 1000 SEL that we drove by every single day on the way to school !
oh boy, i still remember how i used to wait all the trip just to get that glance at it !! not wanting to own it, drive it or even ride in it. just to look at it seemed to be the maximum form of happiness anyone can ever feel.
i still remember how my dad and mom always seemed fascinted with my obsession for cars in general and this one in particular. how i knew much more than most adults knew about car models and stuff like that, how they always pointed out special cars for me so that i can look at them through my reaerseat window !!
i can still hear them saying "Hey Misho, look at this!!"
ahhhh those, were the gold old days. just pure childhood and happiness, no stupid car forums to post ur thoughts in and worry about ur "reputation" !!

and by the way, if i was sitting at the backseat, then it had to be behind the driver. did anyone else here have any particular preference ?

Mum usually gotme to sit behind her and the advantage with that was if anyone was going to give me the shitsit was her so i could kick the crap out of her seat...of course i regretted doing that later :D
Well whikle i had my cousin over he wasplaying with some of my old cars and he gave me this green mustang with lightning on it I wanted one just like that at one stage (it changed many times) of course that taste still stayed with me as id love to have a mach1 preferably red, manual with a 429 :D

My childhood dream car was and still is the 1974 rs3100 gt Capri made be ford. Now i know the maker isn't the best but this car was with a dohc and efi this car did 356km/h on a race track in Germany and then proceeded to do roughly 300km/h around a hair pin at the end of the straight, it broke every last lap record there was at the track including the F1 record. So my favourite car goes to ford as much as i would like to deny it but for a good reason :D

i Know ur feeling as i'm the child that puts 30yr old car buffs to shame. i can name a car just by looking at its rims it so fun. I don't know about u but i love asking people about there cars. like my uncle about his car he has a V8 holden calais(which i can't stand) so i ask him questions about it, questions as simple as how many cylinders does it has and he doesn't know, and one of my teachers has a gt falcon which pulls out about 400Kw and i asked him how big his jets are on his carb and he said " it n/a it doesn't have them" little things like that give me more pleasure. Besides the for capri in australia is so rare i never see them around so i gotta get kicks from other thing. :)

My childhood dreamcar is the car from the Disneyfilm The Love Bug, which I saw the first time when I was three. I don't mean the VW Beetle, but the loud yellow car with black stripe from the villain:

The Intermeccanica Apollo.

It looks the deal, it's fast and man, they really thrash the pants off of it!

Yes, I have one, but the car in the film is probably the coolest Apollo around. It looks tough in that particular livery and it has a certain stance.

Well you had some good taste as a teen ;) I still dream of owning a GT40 nowdays (never will happen unless i reallymove up in the world) but other then that a serious want is a cobra R model Mustang from america here there diffrent faster then any falcon or commadore (well stock anyways) and will also be fun to blast around the track on the weekend....
But still that one might happen...i wont be too blown away if it doesnt...By mid next year ill reach my saveings goal and will own a performance car of my own (more then likly jap...pulling my fathers trick finding a car he enjoys to keep him untill i get a true weekend car ;) ) and i will be over the moon at that aspect...im so willing to get out of the sunny im looking to get a 2nd job to get it sooner (if i can put away $300 a week rather then my $150 ill have my goal by very early next year) ahh what hard work can get you :)

My Favorite car of my childhood would have to be early model Dodge Viper. When I lived in the Detroit Metro area as a kid, there was a Dodge dealership down the road and it had a Viper on display in the show room. I would walk up there and just stare at it and admire it. The Viper was my first contact with an extremely fast car.

Now my favorite car is a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, an absolutely beautiful car, with a sweet 3.0L V12 Testa Rossa powerplant.

Well I had a bunch, when I was about 7 one of my neighbors had a brand-new silver 1984 300ZX, I liked that a lot, and another of my neighbors had a brand-new black MkII Toyota Supra, it was probably an 83 or 84. I was in love with both of them. But overall if you were a kid growing up in the '80s there were two cars that were the baddest of all, and we would argue over which was better: The Ferrari Testarossa and the Lamborghini Countach. I preferred the Countach myself.

Great car. As much as I love the Vanquish I am disappointed because Aston didn't keep to the MASSIVE power and MASSIVE torque. The Vanquish struggles to do 60 mph in less than 5 seconds, the V600, despite the 2 tonne weight did it in just under 4 seconds.

Hard to say, I don't even remember. I have never been too much into the supercar thing even as a little kid, I always thought they looked too cartoonish (yes, they looked cartoonish to a 4 year old!). But I remember a few I always had a soft spot for. The '59 Cadillac and the '70 Chevelle stick out in my mind as cars that captivated me from an early age. I think the Ferrari 308 always got me too, and to this day remains the only Ferrari made in the 80's that I can even look at. Maybe that's cuz it was designed in the 70's. Also helps that my aunt owns one.

Well since I got to start driving just when gas prices hit $2.00 and now they are $3.00+ my dream car is a hydrogen powered car that doesn't look too bad.

If gas prices were 75 cents like I remember them I would probably pick a sedan from a Jap auto maker that's RWD and manual. Lexus makes the IS300 and would be a good choice for me and of course I picked a dream car that is affordable.

and that's exactly what I'm looking for. Manual that's RWD and doesn't have to be the IS. The reason it's a dream car for me is because I cant afford gas for it hahahahah and it's out of my price range. That's not a dream car for many people but it is for me.

They make a CSL version of the M6?

It's been strongly rumoured that they're planning to, but i don't think they've shown anything concrete to the press yet. I even read in a recent issue of Evo that due to popular demand they were planning on developing a 6 speed manual to fit that monster V10. Presumably this 'box could fit also straight into the M5 as an option.

I hope they do. The only thing that disappoints me about the current M6 is the poncey gearbox and the rather chubby kerb weight. If they can get it down to sub-1500kg and fit a proper gearbox I'll take one. In fact, I'll take two! :p

Cyco

They make a CSL version of the M6?

They were thinking about it, but ended up using all the cool stuff like the carbon roof on the standard M6, so there tuning options are much reduced. I can't see it happening.

This was confirmed by BMW sveral months back that it would be an option on US cars late '06, the rest of the world may or may not get it yet.

My childhood dream car was a BMW M3. I've always really liked BMW's since I was a young child.

Actually my childhood dream was "a muscle car", later honed into the '70 Chevelle SS454 LS/6. I was also always into Ferrari 308's, mostly because my aunt has one. And the ghostbusters mobile (a '59 Cadillac ambulance, probably an H+H or a Miller + Meteor model) always captivated me too.

I'm a bit embarrassed by them. Umm there was the Aston Martin DB7, Mercedes 500SL, Ferrari 355, Ferrari F50, Mercedes SLK230 and the Mercedes CLK320. Yea that was most of the cars that i had posters of. They were always my dream cars.

There were some childhood dream cars, I'm pretty sure of that, but my memory of them was blown away with the advent of the Lamborghini Miura S.

I walked past a dealer selling a mint, 2nd hand, red & black one on my way to college every day. I stopped often to admire it, sit in it... almost worship it and eventually the dealer took pity on me and although he knew I couldn't afford it, let me take it for a drive....... OMG, this became the ONLY car in my world for a loooooong time!

Even now, the memories are crystal clear, the V12 growling and then screaming, inches behind my head, looking in the rear view mirror and having to squint past the HT leads to see (somebody wrote of this car that it was an F1 in street clothes and if you wanted to know if someone was behind you, you don't look in the mirror, you look at the speedometer!) :D

Always a Ferrari or Classic American Muscle (69 Camaro, and I still dream about owning one.)

Me too! - You might consider a Euro-American Hybrid like an Intermeccanica Italia, an Iso Rivolta, a Bizzarini Strada, etc... You get the best of both worlds - a stunningly beautiful, handbuilt steel body with a hand-sewn interior, propelled by gobs of American musclecar torque, and you can give it a complete tune up for less than you'd spend on just one of the two distributor caps the Ferrari would need.

Other Euro-American hybrids include Shelby's Cobra (his original AC body was styled after the early Touring-bodied Ferrari 166 Barchetta), The TVR-Griffith, the Sunbeam Tiger, Facel Vega, Monteverdi, Bitter, Ghia 450SS, Apollo GT, Murena, DeTomaso Mangusta, Pantera, (the list goes on and on... but this illustrates the idea that there are a lot of possibilities for having both great styling and great performance without having to pay uber-exotic prices. That was why these cars were built in the first place; and until recently, their American engines have been keeping their prices relatively low compared with euro-engined exotics... (but that seems to be shifting recently as muscle cars appreciate).

Ok, I know that original Shelby's appreciated a long time ago because of their racing pedigree... & Bizzarinis haven't been cheap for 20+ years (same reason), but only a few years ago, DeTomaso Mangustas and Panteras were $25k at Rick Cole auctions, and Intermeccanica's Apollos & Italias still remain nearly undiscovered by the collector car world.

When I was younger my father and I never missed the DC Auto show. Thing is, it was the worst show ever. It was all consumer cars, no concept cars or sports cars. In fact, the best it got one year was two local guys allowing their Lotus Esprit and Lambo Countach for the weekend viewing. I always was fascinated by the "all mystical" Ferrari growing up, so thats what got my vote.

I was always mezmerized by a few cars growing up. The C4 Corvette, The Ferrari Testarossa, and the Countache. I never could understand what people saw in BMWs but to each his own. Every car has a place for someone. The cars I like always tend to have 2 seats and look like they could fly to the moon if I pointed them up.

One more I forgot to mention was the Delorean. I don't think too many people growing up in the 80's didn't love a car that could time travel as a kid...

My Childhood dream car was my fathers car, its now mine.
The 1963 Apollo 3500 Gran Turismo

We went to see Herbie The Love Bug in my fathers 63 Apollo at the drive in movies. At intermission when everyone else realized that they were walking by the same kind of car the villan drove "The Thorndyke Special". Before we knew it there was a crowd gathering around the car.

I always loved to have a Ford Sierra actually. I loved it's design. Still like it, might be driving one on track soon with school for the DNRT racing league. Also the Capri and Escort always had a magical charm to me. Believe it or not, as a youngster I loved the looks of the FIAT Ritmo as well !

Guess my dreams were all ready practical by neccesity back then :o

Yeah, I only started liking cars when I was around 13 or so.

That was when the NSX was still in production. God I still love that car.
