McLaren F1 GT 1997
F1 GT
The final incarnation of the roadcar, the F1 GT was meant as a homologation special. With increased competition from homologated sports cars from Porsche and Mercedes-Benz in the former BPR Global GT Series and new FIA GT Championship, McLaren required extensive modification to the F1 GTR in order to remain competitive. These modifications were so vast that McLaren would be required to build a production road-legal car on which to base the new race cars.
The F1 GT featured the same extended rear bodywork as the GTRs for increased downforce and reduced drag, yet lacked the rear wing that had been seen on the F1 LM. The downforce generated by the longer tail was found to be sufficient to not require the wing. The front end was also similar to the racing car, with extra louvers and the wheel arches widened to fit larger wheels. The interior was modified and a racing steering wheel was included in place of the standard unit.
The F1 GTs were built from standard F1 road car chassis, retaining their production numbers. The prototype GT, known as XPGT, was F1 chassis #056, and is still kept by McLaren. The company technically only needed to build one car and did not even have to sell it. However, demand from customers drove McLaren to build two production versions that were sold. The customer F1 GTs were chassis #054 and #058.

OH MY GOD! THANK YOU VERY VERY VERY VERY SO INCREDIBLY AND EARTH-SHATTERINGLY MUCH! *Worships McLareN* Ive never seen these pics before. Great!
Oh, and 3 were made. The black press car, a Dark Green production car with Tan interior and this Burgandy production one. I don't know what happened to the black one but its very likely it was dismantled for GTR parts, the Dark Green one was in storage at the old McLaren factory and the Burgandy one I believe is part of a private collection. I made a thread about it ages ago here.
Edit : The Burgandy F1 GT is part of the ZAZ museum collection. Heres a useful website.

You can see a lot of airbrushing on that first pic if you look close.

Cool, what's the specs on this car?
Cool, what's the specs on this car?
Around about the same as the F1 XP4 but with better downforce so presumably better road holding.
Oh, and I agree .. looks very airbrushed. Looks too smooth. But thats only really the colour ... its not a chop sorta airbrush like I think most people may be thinking at the moment :)

How much horsepower would this magnificent creature be holding?
How much horsepower would this magnificent creature be holding?
Same as the XP4 again .. 624bhp. There has been some speculation that they have the GTR engine with 60 extra BHP but I tend to believe that less now.
-
think of a 231 mph, 624 hp, middle hand drive, 0-60 mph in less than 3.5 secs rocket!
-
come to think of it, I dont have a middle hand.
think of a 231 mph
240.1 ;)
240.1 ;)
The long tail cars were never top-speed tested so you can only speculate.
Theoretically it should be slightly faster, however, it depends on what gearing the GTs used.
Also - don't forget that XP3 had the rev-limiter raised, and in reality the rest of the F1s topped out at about 220.
They are actually the "luxury" version of the F1, with more leather etc on the inside.

Whats the critical difference between the McLaren F1 GT, LM, and GTR?

thx. McLaren F1 GT looks more like the longtail version of a McLaren F1. Might as well call it the F1 GT longtail
