While I do think this is drastic and uncalled for, there's not a lot of truth in the idea that practice is what teen drivers need the most. Maturity plays a big part in safe and defensive driving. And as much as teenagers hate to admit it when they are still teenagers, there is a lack of maturity at their age.
It's not about admitting it, it's about realizing it.
It took me quite some time + 2 speeding tickets to aknowledge that I was an idiot behind the wheel, and I'm happy to say that right now at age 20 I'm driving at the speed limit, have respect to other drivers, switch lanes accordingly, never street race, etc..
I think they got a point, since most deathly accidents are caused by or happen to inexperienced and young drivers. But accordingly I think they should take care of the elderly aswell, since a large number of elderly drive dangerous and have a limited responds to the increasing ammount of traffic on the streets daily.
For me, being 21 and having a 'temporary' license, meaning 3 major 'faults' in the first 5 years and I have to get my license again, I think it's fine. But I think they should set a mandatory driving test for people passing the age of 60. And from the age of 60 let the people take such a test every 5 years. Especially since most people over 60 got their license almost 40 years ago and a lot has changed since then. I think this would increase roadsafety enormously.
Just my 2 cents
even though it is in the UK will it be banned anywhere else?
even though they think strongly about protection i still think and people over 20 should get the rights to drive their car, its just unfair. even though looking through all the adverts that has been on T.V. i still think that people shouldn't be doing over 90-80ish, they say the 19 year old was doing 90 something mph why 90? why could of he been going slower? i'm just saying people should still get the right to drive if they are 19+ but not to drive real fast atleast give them a limiter or something that will stop them from doing 90+ mph.
Yet again British judges show how out of touch they are with reality !!!
Bannign woudl do NOTHING.
Giving them the time and tuition to learn how to handle and drive a car teaches the limits better than any stupid ban coudl ever do.
If they included a few hours track tuition and trac time for youg drivers then they would expereicne the speed thrill and learn in a safe environemtn the consequences of excess speed. THEN they woudl not be excessive on the public roads.
If rather than producign stupid laws in the UK which are restricting cheap motorposrt on farmlands they did soemthgin which PROMOTED it then this woudl help reduce cases like this. BUT that's got far too much common sense to be listened to in court with pumpkins as judges :)

dude, this only happens when you get the spoiled kids that have their parents get them sports cars (I know a guy who is a teen, he owns a Boxster and he has been in 5 accidents) if you get a responsible teen adn give him something like a Ciera, then you'll be fine, besides I don't wanmt to wait 13 years until I get my Fiero :)

i'm sure most of the under twenty fives they are on about do not own boxsters but instead have novas, saxo's, 106's,....., escorts,......, astras....... that come complete with a 12 inch exhaust and 2 inch **** :)

More than likely a 106, 205 or 306, not a sports car. Most boy racers drive shopping cars, not sports cars. It still doesn't make them behave any better.

Indeed, hitting a pedestrian with 80 mph with a boxster or a 206 is just as bad for the pedestrian...
People can behave just as stupid in a less powerful car as in a sportscar...
I can't believe how many stupid young people there are. They give so many of us a bad reputation.
I hate that people have to think like this, but really, something does have to happen. I think this particular idea is a little severe and misguided, but changes have got to be made (preferably in training/educating procedures).
If you ban under 25s from driving, they will just be driving stupidly at 25.
never thought of it that way, but i do like the logic behind it ( if any :) ).

No more Oldsmobile for you then!
Great! Prius is getting a car featured on his worst cars list
i'll have to disagree, not all <25 drivers drive unsafely
perhaps, no to <20, or...maybe not
