It's time for Gran Turismo to start launching skins and stuff for their cars.
I'm tired of solid colors and their so called "race modifications", of which I believe only about 20 cars in the game can be modified as such.
Well, then you better lay down and wait for that or your ass will get square from sitting.
If i knew how bad GT5 is i'd have bought an Xbox instead of the PS. The only problem the X has is the price of a decent wheel.

I know, if it took them that long to develop GT5, who knows how long it'll take them to do GT6?
I think the series peaked with GT4, that was the most well rounded GT game.

Aw that makes me sad about the Porsches. One of my favorite things in Forza3 was to make a racing team with cars for each class and a united livery. The brand of choice for this was of course Porsche.
-
I had a go at Forza 4 at PAX, it feels great.
-
-
It was just a quick jaunt in a WRX, so no huge insights. There's a simulation steering mode for more twitchey inputs which I liked, the UI is super clean looking, and there seemed to be a lot of dev emphasis on grip emulation. Compared to Forza 3 it seemed a lot easier to upset the tyres.. or something. Kinda hard to put into words I guess, but suffice to say the physics engine feels like a real step up.
-
From what I understand Turn 10 got its tire grip emulation straight from Pirelli test data. Sounds like it may have paid off.
-
The car certainly felt a lot more alive somehow.. methinks it'll require a bit more finesse this time around.

The demo is out now for live gold members. It's basically the same as the PAX demo, but now they have a brief showing of the rivals thing. One of the rivals challenge is to weave an M5 around a track that's full of shopping cars.. surely such reckless driving should be done in an Audi?!
Anyway, good fun, already pre-ordered for me.
-
My internet is cheapo so I'm not going to download the demo. Figure I'll have the game in a week or so, so not much point!
-
I'm not sure I really like the ad, and I usually like all this sort of emotional ads.
To me it feels artificial and fake.
-
Ferrer, ditto. Seems to be trying too hard to justify our fun.
-
It's not even Clarkson that's causing the problem. I actually liked his review of the V12 Vantage on Top Gear. Even the subject of the ad had potential of fun and political incorrectness in this time of health and safety society.
And somewhat it doesn't work. Maybe because the product they are trying to advertise is "artificial and fake" as well.
-
I don't think it's Clarkson that doesn't work, I think it's the concept. I don't like it when people tell me I should feel oppressed for liking to go quickly.
-
He's not telling you you should FEEL oppressed for liking speed, he's telling you that you that as a fan of speed and power...you are a dying breed. Choked out by all the "pedestrian" drivers and commuters in their sad little econo-cars.
Didn't think the concept was all that hard to understand myself. Far better than the usual MTV inspired nonsense we get with most gaming ads these days.
-
I'll probably buy the game but I'm pissed there is no night racing, no rally racing, and no weather. Apparently these were axed for graphics engine sake, which I think is bullshit. Never cut gameplay for sake of graphics.
-
The commercial does feel kind of funny because at the beginning it tells you "real driving is responsible driving" and then goes to criticize that very notion the entire commercial, making it seem super fake.
-

These were not "cut". There's never been any rally racing or inclement weather conditions in Forza. And truly, I don't see why there should be. The kind of development time that would be needed to get both of those aspects represented properly would nearly double the dev time. Night racing, on the other hand, was present in the first Forza...but never since. I think the main thing holding that back is the frame rate issues they'd run into. It'd be nice to race all the games tracks at any time of day you wish, but I guess that will have to wait for the next generation of Xbox to come along. I just don't think the 360 has it in it.
I don't see the big deal in not being able to race on dirt or in the rain. There's plenty of dedicated rally games out there and who would actually "choose" to race in the pouring rain in a 600+hp race car? The biggest disappointment IMO is the loss of Porsche, but that's not something that was really Turn 10's fault. They managed to deliver 3 top tier racing games to date that featured a healthy Porsche roster in an age where Porsches were no where to be seen....outside of the Need for Speed series. I guess EA saw how much of a Juggernaut FM4 was shaping up to be and decided to be stingy pricks.

GT5 kept those, and we get shitty shadows and "premium" and "standard" cars....
I'd give Forza a go if it supports my G25 wheel, but it doesn't....and no way I will buy a X360 specific wheel...
-
Last I heard there were no proper force feedback wheels allowed on xbox other than MS's one. That was around Forza 2 time though, but I doubt it's changed much. I think there's some Fanatec ones that work well, but yea.. no love for logitech.
-
Fanatec should be decent enough I guess......

If the ad was for sinuous mountain roads, I would agree wholeheartedly. Maybe its their presumption that cars cannot be enjoyed in real life anymore that irks me. Driving fun is merely endangered, not extinct.
Yes modern sportscars may be too fast to fully appreciate on public roads, but old cars and small econoboxes are still alive and well.
-
Yea, that's probably it for me too hellcat. If the ad was a guy in a traffic jam daydreaming about an Aston in a windy country road who was then brought back to reality by car horns then yea. As it is, it's just a guy who wishes he could be driving like a douche.

He can't even go sideways properly...
-
I don't care too much about weather nor night driving but dirt tracks would really make my year (or at least a couple months). That's the only thing I think that the GT series has over the Forza series. I enjoyed rally tracks so much in the GT games.
-
-
Nope, EA are still being bastards. Very unlikely they'll ever be included.
-
ugh i was hoping after the release fuss died down and need for speed floundered anyway they could slip them in as dlc
-
That would be teriffic, hopefully Turn10/MS will keep asking but.. yea.
-
I don't see why someone doesn't just go directly to Porsche and explain to them just how inept EA has been at representing their brand to the virtual masses. I don't think any game to date has rep'd Porsche on the consoles as well as FM3 had...over 30 models past and present.
-
Well, EA did do NFS: Porsche Unleashed. Besides that though, yes. On the other hand, Porsche got fat stacks o' cash and signed a contract that probably doesn't have a good enough exit clause for them to bother much with it.
To flip the coin somewhat, Turn10 and/or Microsoft have the exclusive Ferrari license but thus far haven't blocked anyone else from using them. At the moment they're trumpeting about how fair they are with it but it'll be interesting to see what happens if EA want to do a game with Ferraris.
-
If I were Turn 10 I would definitely block EA from using the Ferrari license...but let everyone else freely use it. In a perfect world it might be a good way to loosen up EA's grip on the Porsche license, but more than likely...EA would just opt not to bother with any Ferrari's in their future racing titles (their car rosters are usually pretty anemic and generic anyways).

It's not like you could use a Ferrari in Hot Pursuit mode, anyway.

My "pre-order" says its going to be here the 17th...
-
Welp, I have it and I'm playing it. I created a club if anyone wants to join, not sure what it does but hey, why not. It's just called UltimateCarPage (tag is UCP) so jump in if you want. We can have a shared garage and whatnot with it and maybe if enough of youse are interested we could get some leaderboards going.
Edit: I ended up joining a different club and you can only have one at a time, so this one is gone now. Feel free to recreate it.
-
Apparently my pre-order got cancelled. :( Not sure what happened there. I just got a box with the fuzzy dice and nothing else. Don't know if they ran out of the collector's editions or what. So I just marched down to best buy and picked up the normal one. Played it a bit.
I do like the finnicky new steering. A couple bad habits from Gran Turismo days bite me every now and then. If you flick to hard, the car really tries to do it and you often end up in the wall. You can really feel the shocks and tire mechanics this time, it's pretty awesome. Also, the cars feel a lot more solid. They kind of flex and crunch when you run them in to each other :D
-
Yea, I like the touchy steering mode. It's bitten me a few times when I've reflexively over-corrected, but hey.. that's life... and what the rewind button is for. Starting in 8th all the time gets a little annoying when you've two laps to catch the guy that escaped the first corner carnage, but a few restarts to get a good start solved that one. In my Forza 3 the starting order was based on PP, but I think on my friend's he started usually in 6th or something. Not sure what that was about. I like that this time they mod all the cars on the grid to be at about the level cap for the race.

Best Buy canceled a lot of collector's editions for preorders and gave them all normal copies.
That's a real bad move on their part. I never pre-order games, but I'm not going to buy from them if they're doing stuff like this.
