True, and also I believe neither the 2.3-16 and 2.5-16 weren't AMGs in any of its variants.
But AMG did tune W201s. They put 3.2-litre straight sixes in it.
It's all about the sound and immense power in supercharged form. Yes it lazy, but I think it suits Mercedes-Benz very much. Mercs have never been about high revving and stiff uncomfortable suspension. I see AMG's as luxury cars which just happen to have very powerful engines.
And I agree with the V8 comment.
Ah, but remember the 300SEL 6.3 and the 450SEL 6.9 were not only know for their engines but there handling abilities as well.
I liked the idea of the Supercharged V8 in the SL55 as sort of a nod to the 540K Special Roadsters. Of course those were inline8s.

Of course, but my point was that AMG Mercs (or standard Mercs for that matter) are never going to be as focused as M BMWs (or standard BMWs). That doesn't make them worse, just different. I can see the appeal of their approach.
190E 2.6 was not an AMG car. MB didn't even own AMG at that point; it was an independent turner much like Brabus is today.
(Brabus is owned by MB.)
(Brabus is owned by MB.)
Altough they collaborate with Daimler tuning Smarts, I believe they don't own it. At least yet.

The ML is the only Mercedes I like so... ML 63 for me.

Not according to Wikipedia or any other source I can find.

CL 63 for me. in dreams, ok, but what a sweet dream...
-
cls 55
those supercharged engines had unbelivable low end power.
I've purposely excluded the Black Series cars because they're limited production. SLR is not an AMG car. I've purposely excluded the G55 and the R63 because if you pick those cars there's something wrong with you.
Actually I would pick the G55. I agree with Hammond's view on the G55, about it being one of the coolest cars around.
Also, I don't believe a sports car should be an automatic, and I also believe that a luxury car like the S class really doesnt need an AMG treatment either..
So, the one that would make sense for me, would be the G class :)

What does that have to do with it, Nic? AMG has been behind every seriously fast Mercedes since the 1970s. That's common knowledge.
The AMG badge is a new thing on Mercs, but to limit the pool of great AMG cars to those built after AMG was brought in-house is to ignore a good dozen of Mercedes' finest cars from what many, 'Quail included, regard as a Mercedes renaissance in the late 1980s; and it was fueled by AMG.

Every MB AMG is fantastic, but I think that a C63 AMG is a rocket! I've recently saw a grey C63AMG T-Modell and I was shocked!

For me the CLS63, just because the CLS is one of the most beautiful cars ever built in my opinion :)
I saw the white one at this year's Geneva Autosalon, and it really impressed me.
SL73 Amg
I don't really like AMG's. Except for the CLS55 maybe. And the E63 wagon is somewhat nice.
