vBulletin uses tabel directoves to build the 'shape' of the threads.
So it doesn't take any more to fill out one shape over another.
Care to explain a bit more ? I'm not sure I understand what you mean there.
The removal of avatars helps, but with any browser cache that should be zero.
I'm not really talking about bandwidth here more about esthetics/look&feel/uniformity.

The forums used the vBulletin package to store and render the pages.
The templates for the displays use TABLE tags (=commands) to define the layout.
VERY SIMPLIFIED ...
a post in vertical layout is 2 columns and one row.
In the horizontal layout it is 1 culumn and 2 rows.
The template sends the SAME text into the correct cell for each different alyout.
It's the same amount of text being sent.
If time to send is a REAL problem there are other solutions.
It's people like you that don't care about cluttering the board; I could deal with it, but think about this I'M ON DIAL-UP CONNECTION.
Thank's for slowing the board down...:(

That's not a simple solution, and from your post I can see you don't know what you are talking about. Broadband isn't a connection floex itself, there is cable broadband and DSL broadband. I'm assuming your momy and dady pay for it...
DSL broadband is only available at my house from one telephone company, which charge ridiculous amounts. Cable broadband has just recently become a "practical access"; my area has had it for a while, but the connection was very poor at the beginning, and it was $80 a month.
I did just order Cable broadband, since Comcast moved in to my area, and they are getting mostly good reviews. This still isn't a point, picture signatures are simply stupid.
You should be greatful you can get cable, cause i can't but you dont see me getting stuck into anyone that can or moaning my arse off.
