2014 24Hr LeMans
Another year, another LeMans. So far at the two hour mark it was a mostly clean race, until the rain came. The #3 Audi, the #8 Toyota and the #81 GTE Am Ferrari came up to some slow traffic in the rain and were unable to slow down in time. The #8 and #81 ended up with heavy front end damage, the #3 spun backwards into the wall. #8 has limped back to the pits for repairs, the #3 is retired, the garage is closed.
The Nissan ZEOD came in for a lengthy pit stop early on but is back out on track.. running last, 24 laps down on the lead. Some good scrapping between Ferrari and 'Vettes in the GTE classes early on, thus far there's a 'Vette in the lead with Porsche 911s 2nd in Pro and 1st in Am.
P1: #7 Toyota
P2: #34 Oreca Judd
Pro: #74 'Vette
Am: #77 911

More rain and more crashes as we speak. Two LMP2s have crashed and Safety Car is out again.
Also, one of the Porsches is down in 43rd. Does anyone know what happened?
-
Green flag... and a Porsche in the lead!
-
The Porsche hit problems earlier with fuel pressure that got resolved, but they lost some time.
-
Looks like they had more problems somewhere too. I can only get the web feed which is designed to compliment the tv feed.. that I can't get. So I miss a lot.
-
Have you tried this?

-
By the way, the Nissan ZEOD has retired, apparently.
-
Oh lovely, that VLC stream is great. Thanks!
I saw the ZEOD right at the bottom of the live timing, but that was a while ago.. I can't get it to load now.
-
Oh, there it goes. Silly thing. Seems like the Porsche lost the 5 laps basically just because of the fuel problem, I think they were in for about 15 minutes so that'd be about right.
-
Porsche second car (#14) is now back in 17th, who knows if it rains...
Toyota (#7) is back in the lead, following #20 Porsche's pit stop. It had done one less pit stop than all the other cars, apparently because the 2 litre V4 engine is more frugal than Toyota's big V8, especially under safety car conditions.
In GTE both works Porsches are fighting for the lead, the chasing Corvette is one lap down (pit stop perhaps?).
-
Audis seem to be stopping earlier than Toyotas and Porsches.
Diesel not quite as frugal as it used to be?
EDIT Porsche back in front.
-
Problems for Porsche? Dropping back apparently..
Edit: Nope, timing glitch.
-
'Vette through for GT Pro lead.
-

Indeed, what a scrap with Bergmeister in the #91 Porsche.
Chasing Toyota, more than 20 seconds behind leading Porsche?
Last lap the 919 posted a 3:31 for Toyota's 3:34.
Does Porsche actually have a chance?
-
#91 is back at chasing #74 Corvette.
He wants revenge.
-
#7 flying to catch the leading Porsche.
In a couple of laps he's cut 7 seconds.
-
After both pit stops, #7 Toyota leads, seemingly stabilising the race.
At least until more rain comes.
Now it's Toyota #7 in the lead, Porsche #20 second, with both of the surving Audis (#2 and #1) behind.
EDIT The surviving Audi was #2, not #3, which crashed out earlier in the race.
-
Magnificent battle in GT between the Aston and the Porsches.
As for the overall race, Porsche is going down. Now, out of the podium overtaken by #1 Audi.
-
Apparently #20 has developed a brutal vibration, which may force to pit or even retire. They do not know where it's the tyre, the wheel or something much worse.
Could also be due to the missed chicane earlier.
-
As the sun sets, and another safety car comes out, if #7 manages to not crash or break down, Toyota could be the first Japanese winner since 1991.
-
I have no idea how much time there is left in the race but I agree, Toyota might bring home the win.
They're doing surprisingly well.
Nissan seems to be plagued with bad luck. I wonder if plagiarism had anything to do with that.
-
#7 still at it.. long way to go yet though. #20 still running in third, not sure what's going on with the vibration. #14 Porsche in another long pit stop in the garage, still struggling with fuel pressure issues it seems. #8 Toyota that crashed earlier and knocked the front end off is still going, though they're 12 laps down.
In GT, the 'Vettes have dropped back a bit, the #51 Ferrari is leading Pro with the #95 Aston leading the Ams.
-
The battle in GTs is amazing, the #97 Aston Martin leads but just by few seconds from the #51 Ferrari. And that's after more than 13 hours of racing.
As for the overall lead, Toyota is a little but closer to the win. The #2 Audi is a lap down to the #7 TS040
-
#7 stopped at Indianapolis, Audi engineer said there was a fire but no fire seen from the #2 Audi dashcam.
-
Hopefully that means if there was a fire, it was quickly extinguished.
-
OK so I was away for a while and #2 Audi has dropped back and #1 Audi has passed the Porsche #20 and is leading. The Ligiers are leading P2, and GT is still pretty much as it was.
-
OK, so P2 class leader had a front left suspension failure but got safely back to the pits, and then the #1 Audi race leader had to stop and power cycle the car. It ain't over yet...
-
Looks like #46 Ligier is back out in second behind the other Ligier, and #1 Audi successfully rebooted and it still leading. Third place #2 Audi is averaging 5 seconds a lap quicker than second place #20 Porsche.
-
Whoop, #1 Audi had an unscheduled pitstop, an unsafe release and is now going around the lap being overtaken by GTE cars. .. Apparently just came back to life though, but has just re-pitted but into the garage this time.
-
#20 Porsche back in the lead, #1 Audi has apparently a turbo issue, anticipated to be about a 20 minute stop, so will lose about 5 - 6 laps.
-
According to the radio chatter, it was a turbo issue that dropped the #2 Audi back as well.
-
17:36 later and the #1 Audi is back out in 3rd... #20 Porsche still being steadily caught by the #2 Audi.
#20 Porsche just told to be careful with the clutch..
-
Wow, I go to sleep and everything changes massively. Can Porsche win on their return?
Also, in GTE Astons apparently dropped down the other due to problems in their power steering system. Looks like the #51 AF Corse Ferrari will win.
-
To hard to call at the moment, #2 is still catching hard.
-
Audi #2 stops in boxes as it was about to catch Porsche #20.
It's going to be a nail biting finish!
-
Apparently all will be down to the pit stop strategy, Porsche can do 14 lap-stints, but Audi can only manage 12-13-lap stints.
-
#20 Porsche pits early, Webber slots in. #2 Audi passes into the lead.. but will need to stop again.
-
New tyres and the fastest driver in the 919 #20. To try and defend themselves from the chasing #2 Audi.
-
Audi #2 in the lead after the pit stop. Propsect looks grim for the #20 Porsche.
-
#2 pits, only fuel stop - no stop, no new tyres. Interesting! Seems they'd need at least another tyre change before the end, but this way #2 is out in front of #20. Definitely seems like #20 is nursing problems, given the speed that #14 passed it too.
