Reputation has been the cause of a lot of infighting and complaints on the Forums, so we all decided to get rid of it entirely. this way there is no competition, and therefore posts will be all that matters. You'll have to make up your own mind on people and their posts, not just look at their rep and either dismiss it or give it creedance.
Makes sense, too bad though as it seemed like a great thing. But whatevers best for the forums must be done, and if this will better UCP then I'm all for it. :)
Also, instead of giving/taking rep for a post, now you could just PM the person and let 'em know what you thought of there post, that way we still get the positive/negative feedback on our posts (which is always good, imo).
Rep is a double edge sword. It can be a help when you want to reward someone for their contributions, but it can be abused and create a kind of "Rep Envy", which can make people a target.
Glad your on board for the changes, we're just trying to keep the forums to their usual high standard.
Yes, the reputation system is disabled for the moment, if it has a noticable effect on the community, we'll keep it off.

i like the idea with the PM, kinda like rather than giving/taking rep points, you can provide positive or negative feedback

the size of the PM mailbox is rather small. Is there anyway to export the messages?

My intentions for adding reputation in the first place was to have a self regulating system on the forums. As a side effect members might feel reluctant to freely speak their mind in fear of getting negative rep. To find out how much of an effect rep has on the overall mood on the forums.
well i'll giveyou credit for one thing wouter, at least someone who recieved neg rep a fair bit and had their rep declining might be influenced to change their ways, the same might not be able to be said with a simple feedback system
To find out how much of an effect rep has on the overall mood on the forums.
to be continued??
i think its stupid, the system was working well.
I dont think we'll see any major changes in peoples behaviour, it could really go either way if you think about it. Rep was a good way to keep the people who were getting out of line back in line. If that didnt work then banning was the only other real option. now with rep gone what options do the mods have in discipline? you cant just dock a few reps now, theres only warnings then a ban, no in between, a warning, a neg rep, then a ban was the norm before wasnt it? really i think itll cause an unnecessary pain on behalf of the mods but its its worth a shot i spose.
:( i liked the rep system... i just wished the moderators would actually talked to us about removing them first before actually remove it completely....
i like the rep system too, how many other forums have it, none that i know of! thats what makes this forum different to all the others.
Us mods saw the effects first hand.
And we didn't like what we saw.
Many of you were using it correctly, but to be honest, just as many seemed to be using it to their own devices, and not to the tune we would have liked.
In the end though, if there is no change, the rep system may rejoin UCP. But until then, your just gonna have to try and make yourself stand out with your amazing posts guys!
I always stand out everywhere i go anyways!
you havent seen how tall i am dude.
good posts aye? well i better step it up a notch...;)
Being tall has nothing to do with it, though, being a 6'1 16 Y/o, it does help.
It's about quality, not Quantity.
Remember that; If you don't have anything valid or relevant to say, be <elmerfudd> Verry verry Quiet <elmerfudd/>
dang, right when my rep went past 50, It dissappeared.
the size of the PM mailbox is rather small. Is there anyway to export the messages?
try being 18 and 6"6! :D
An attitude like that is bound to get you banned one day Karrmann.
It's gone for a test period. Give it some time to sink in, and realise how much more open the Forums will be when people do not pander to their reps.
Feel free to express your opinions, but try not to be so biased, try to see where we are coming from.
Nice for me because I was considered off the scale. I didn't agree with that, because if its true that there've been months since my last post, at least I'm not offending anyone or saying foolish things. I'm quiet, but peaceful.
Good move then! Thumbs up!
You'll be reading more from me from now on!
that more often then not results in a posts complete removal or severe editing. so I dont think hitting it frquently will get you far buddy:p
With rep or with no rep, I wont change :D

For me the rep system seemed more bad than good because a lot of posts were aimed at getting + reps (I myself had done it several times :p). Let see what kind of posts we're going get during this test period.
i had fewer than 13 posts and 0 rep.
i ask a guy for a desktop pic.
he said no cuz my rep was low.
nuff said.
i couldnt get a pic cuz of stupid rep points, im glad they r gone.
I'm not very happy now, because I was actually starting to recieve rep, and then the whole system goes! Put it back please! :( P.S. sorry to hear about your lttle problem, obviously that guy was really immature. What was the pic?
i havent read any of this so i dont know if it has been asked.....if the rep system is brought bak..will we all have 10 rep or will we have the same as before??
i got it but eventually.
and yes rep did create egos in my opinion, some other guy on here has been on my case since i posted some disapproval of the system so im glad its gone.
posts and the discussions matter, not rewarding someone due to them.
if the rep system is brought bak..will we all have 10 rep or will we have the same as before??
see, who cares about points, you should post because you like the discussion, not to increase useless points.

Well, although I really liked the rep system, I guess it might have been fitting for it to go for reasons like the above (quote). Justin Syder, the only reason that person might have said no because it could have seemed like you were abusing the forums to get pictures without contributing to the community. Just my 2 ¢ I'll miss you rep :(
One more thing i forgot to mention; mods, you may want to put it back on because people will start rating people according to their post count.
true! how about automatic signing? so then the ppl who give out neg rep for no reason can't hide.
and a view of rep given to anyone, so you can judge the 'value' of the rep.
ie no point asking me about chops :)
None of my rep was for the few chops I tried !!!
Plus... I think the rep system actually influenced people to make new threads or even post their posts... We might see a decrease in posts and threads... time will tell... I do hope the rep system comes back though cos although I did get a negative rep... I actually made a friend from the incident after we kissed and made up... Remember that d-quik... (Im not gay, its just an expression btw...)
Yea thats why i posted
