which is actually very odd.
No it isn't.
The front of both cars are more-or-less identical; why bother manufacturing an entire new set of panels that are marginally different to accommodate the E90 headlights, when you have the E92 panels sitting there ready to fit?
Apparently the entire 3-series range will be updated with the front end from the E92 in due course, so they would have to do it anyway at some point.

Ok, sorry.
Actually your argument doesn't make sense. Why did they have to use E92 headlights? Why not have something like this?

Because the rest of the front body panels of the standard 3 will not fit around the larger engine.

That I hadn't read yet. It's a shame, cause this front end really doesn't suit the rest of the body.

An M3 is always cool, but I find the rear to be very weak. The rear lights seem too rounded and it just doesn't suit the car at all. It's not aggressive and it just seems to droop, while the rest of the car (quad tailpipes, side vent) say otherwise.
The rear lights work fine on a regular 3 series, but I expect more (stylistically) from an M3.
Why did they have to use E92 headlights? Why not have something like this?
Why go to the bother of designing an all new set of M3 front-end body panels to accommodate a slightly different headlight shape, and all of the time and money that would cost you, when you can just swap the headlights and use the existing panels?

a black E90/2 M3 past me on Saturday morning, and surprisingly I quite like it, and it really does sound very, very nice

You didn't get my point. Nevermind.

I think that your opinion of the new M3 is that it's ugly.

Clearly.

Wrong.
Wrong.
Wrong guess then. :D

I think its a waste, I really liked the coupe M3, I didnt know what expect from the 4 door M3, but this is way below anything I expected(style wise), its also too expensive 4 its class, i'd go with a 335 instead

It will probably cost less than the coupe if it follows the price pattern of the normal 3 series where people seem to pay a slight premium for the two door car.
