Rock: Going to Court
That's right, I'm sure most of you remember this thread. Well, today's the day, and I'm heading off to court in about 20-30 mins. The tickets sum up to $200.00, for: 1. driving past 12:00 a.m. w/ 2 passengers in the car (besides driver) and 2. throwing projectiles out of a moving vehicle. The first ticket would normally go scot-free if me/friends didn't have NJ Provisional Licenses. (17 years old)
I'll check back in about an hour to tell you how it went. :)

Good luck, man. I hope everything goes smooth.

Well, my friend was driving, and he had the provisional.
So, this is what happened:
- I expected to go down there and testify, as a witness to my friend Anthony's case, as I was told at the precinct when we were 'arrested'.
- 10 minutes into the summons hearing, my friend Anthony's attorney called me over, and said, "since you admitted to throwing the eggs when you guys were caught, you'll have to tell the prosecution and it will result in a fine of $200-1000, or you may get nothing. So I'm starting to think, WTF, this wasn't supposed to happen, but I continue on with the hearing.
- 2 minutes after this 'conversation' with my friend's deuschbag attorney, I get called down to the prosecution guy's office, in the next room, where they ask me if I admitted to throwing the eggs at the time, which I agreed with, and then they asked me for my Driver's License, which I handed over.
- 10 minutes later, I get called back to the Prosecution office, get my license back, and get slapped with a $239 ticket, for throwing a couple eggs out of my friend's car. What makes it worse, is they listed my Driver's License I.D. number with the make/model/plates of my friend's car, making it seem as if I was the driver, which I'll argue in court on Oct. 12, since I pleaded not guilty. At least I won't get points on my license, or affect my insurance.
-This all wouldn't have happened if my friend(s) didn't decide to throw eggs, and if the idiots in the car ahead of us didn't throw them at moving cars... I'll be splitting that ticket 50/50 with my friend Anthony, after the friends in the other cars chip in like 10-20 dollars each, reducing my total costs to about 60-80 dollars.
Summary: I expected to not be charged, but just to tell a story, as I was told, but had the case/charges handed to me on the spot, leaving me dumbfounded in front of the judge/prosecution. I still have a chance of paying nothing though.
Oh well, shit happens.
-
Shit doesn't happen dude, the Attorney for Anthony obviously just wanted to get his client off without fear or favour with his friends.
If you didn't throw eggs, the best the've got you on is the curfew and passengers. You are, however, responsible for every person in your car and what they do.
Sucks Dude, Bugger of a Situation :(
