When I was in elementary school these vans and the Pontiac Trans Port were EVERYWHERE. Now they've all disappeared and all I see now are 1st gen Odysseys, the occasional Toyota Previa and Mazda MPV.
I always thought the cab forward design and the way the windshield wiper swept upwards was really cool. Now I just know they're crappy cars.
Chevy Astros, Plymouth Voyagers... (RIP)
The Pontiac variant was sometimes seen here in the mid-90s. I haven't seen one for a long time though...
Excuse me, how?

Feast your eyes on them.

But... This makes no sense? Were they for sale in Europe?

Yes they were.
-
I don't remember the Buick-engined version though. The ones I saw had always the 16 valve engine.
-
Today I learned Pontiacs were sold in Europe. What a time it would have been to be alive.
-
They were probably sold threw the Opel (GM) network.
Because I can’t remember any Pontiac, Chevrolet or Cadillac dealers

Indeed they were distributed via Opel/Vauxhall dealers (just read about it). And maybe also some examples via independent US car importers.

There were a few experiments of this type in the late 80's / early 90's including an EDM Buick Park Avenue and more than a few Chryslers...

As Oldsmobile Sillouhette in a recent Dutch magazine.
With leather seats !

The obscure truth is that, apparently, after the first gen Trans Sport was facelifted into something more resembling a car the EDM Trans Sport was changed to a rebadged Oldsmobile Silhouette (which didn't receive the car-like facelift) because Europeans were used to avant-garde desings.

Yes, (former) Europeans have a proud history of vacuum-cleaner design.

Yes, I always thought the Trans Sport looked like one of these with windows all around.
