Amelia Island auction results with Lola T165 and Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost ...

This weekend, the three major international auction houses held their annual sales on Amelia Island. Topping the charts was RM Sotheby's, who grossed just under $36 million during their two-day sale. One of the most impressive results was this mighty Lola T165 Chevrolet Can-Am racer. It was consigned at no reserve and would go on to sell for three times the low estimate at $665,000.
At the Gooding sale a day earlier, this Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Kellner Torpedo Phaeton topped the bill at $2.2 million. It had been sold new to Portugal where it remained until the early 2000s. It was reunited with its original coachwork by the vendor, who had it restored at no expense. Chassis 67RB was already successfully shown in events on both sides of the Atlantic. Kicking off the action on Thursday was Bonhams. The British company's $21 million auction was topped by the Bugatti Type 55 Roadster we featured last month. It sold for an impressive $7.1 million, while the Vanderbilt Renault also did well, finding a new owner for $3.3 million.
