Turbo Thursday with Jaguar, Ford Zakspeed and Toleman racers ...

Today we celebrate Turbo Thursday by taking a closer at three turbocharged racers. The first is this Jaguar XJR-11, which was raced at the recent Monza Historic exactly 30 years after the car originally made its competition debut at the Italian track. Campaigned in the Sports Car World Championship by Jaguar during the 1990 and 1991 seasons, chassis 490 was driven to victory at the Silverstone round in 1990.
One of the most extreme cars to compete in the Group 5 class during the late 1970s and early 1970s was the Ford Zakspeed Capri. Six of these silhouette racers were built and this example was originally raced by Harald Ertl and Klaus Niedzwiedz. During the 1980s, it was used in hill climbs by Herbert Stenger, who would continue to own the car until his passing in 2014. In its new ownership, it has been carefully restored to its original guise and returned to the track for the first time this year.
For the Toleman team, 1984 represented a breakthrough season. For a variety of reasons, the TG 185 could not continue the upward trend, despite clinching one pole position in the hands of Teo Fabi. It was however the first car sponsored by Benetton and it would evolve into the Grand Prix winning Benetton B186. The feature example is the only example to be in full running order today.
