New BMW and Acura GTP racers, and all-electric DeLorean and Buick ...

The latest manufacturers to offer a glimpse of their upcoming GTP racers are BMW and Acura. Yesterday, the Germans unveiled the M Hybrid V8 as part of the BMW Motorsport 50th anniversary. Using Dallara underpinnings and a V8 derived from the old DTM unit combined with a spec hybrid system, it is set to make its North American competition debut at Daytona at the start of 2023. Although no FIA WEC program has been announced yet, it can not be a coincidence that the M Hybrid V8 during the Le Mans week.
One of BMW's main rivals in the IMSA GTP category will be Acura with the ARX-06, which is shown in camouflage only. Like the current generation Acuras, it utilises the successful Oreca LMP chassis and will be fitted with bespoke bodywork. HPD will supply the internal combustion, which will also be mated to the spec hybrid system.
The DeLorean Motor Company is back from the past and has showcased this all-electric Alpha5. Like its legendary predecessor, it boasts gullwing doors. No details have been released about the drivetrain but the Alpha5 has should have a range of around 500 km. It will make its public debut at Pebble Beach in August.
Another name revived is the Wildcat, which is now used for an all-electric coupe concept produced by Buick. The striking coupe kicks off the electrification of the Buick line-up but unfortunately doubt that the Wildcat EV will ever make it into production; certainly not in its current form.
