BTW.. the standard 7800GS sucks bad.
Worse than a 6800 chip.. should get the Golden Sample one, which brand was that again??
There was one reviewed in Custom PC, last months I think..
It's a full 7800 chip rather than the cutdown GS version.
20 pixel pipes & 16 ROPs, rather than 16 pipes & 8 ROPs.
Just shop around for a good price. :)

Golden Sample is by Gainward, and apparently 7800-series is outta his price range.

Yeah, ~$450-500AUD is a bit too much

If you were to get an ATi then I would recommend a X850, but then the 6800GS would work better on newer games. The X800GTO competes with the lower-end 8-pipe 6800XT and loses to it.

Probably not a lot in frame rate but sligth improvement in image quality ( SM2 ) and games support.
But may not have a very long "life" :(
See http://apps.ati.com/ATIcompare/ if you want to see some specs ( but sadly no benchmanrks :( )
EDIT: Ah, the 'new' card isn't the SE version, so you 'll get about 50% faster fill rates IIRC. That'll be noticable in improved frame rate for most games. Still worry that you're liekly to be stuck when you want to go Vista or "next gen" game.

Not really a problem, the only game I really ever play on the compy is Desert Combat
