I can't believe it. Another great motoring icon and motor racing legend just passed away.
Just saw this too. Wow. Even TMZ is reporting about it - talk about the cultural significance the guy had :(
Well with the exception of designing some brilliant cobras and mustangs, I'd have to say it would be spearheading ford's 4 year ass wipping of ferrari in the le mans 24h in the 60's

Le Mans winner as a driver for Aston Martin, Le Mans winner as a program director for Ford. Beating Ferrari at world sportscar, creating Omni GLHS....:D
He lived his life to the fullest and left over a great legacy. Sorry to see him pass, but he had left his mark...
On an interesting note, Carroll Shelby won LeMans as both a team operator and a driver, an honor not even the legendary Reinhold Joest or Henri Pescarolo has had; best of all he was able to rub it in the face of the great Enzo Ferrari hmself.
Yeah he did some things people may disagree with, but damn it, we would be much poorer as car enthusiasts without him.
If there is an afterlife, I wonder what sort of crazy beast he and Ferry Porsche will be building...
Yes, I heard about it yesterday afternoon.
He's a very hardy individual, especially when he stayed so active after a heart transplant.
Not to mention he drove the Shelby Daytona coupe.
There's a thread I made earlier about him and his contemporaries.

Most people forget this era of Shelby.
Legendary racer and designer of a legendary car passed away. Who has never wanted Ford Shelby in his life? Continue your race in a better place. RIP

Lol V8's mounted in the rear of a lightweight car? hmmm
As much as he was polarizing most would admit he was brilliant.
A genius like his will be missed.
Does anyone know where I could find a list of all the cars he was involved in the development of? I can find lists of the cars directly out of his company, but little else.
He lived a full life and then some on his terms, something most people wish they can do. Glad you mentioned the Toyota 2000s Shelby's team prepared for SCCA, Dino. An interesting and successful project, too bad it didn't help sales the way Toyota hoped it would.
Cobra's 50th anniversary is the theme at the Monterey Historics this year... naturally, Shelby was to be grand marshal.
With him gone it will be a huge tribute to his career.
I know I post a lot of videos from Jay Leno's Garage, but this one is relevant.

This is the only contribution I can make worthy of commemorating the passing of an Automotive Icon such as Carroll Shelby, my own photograph of him doing an interview at Laguna Seca in 2000. Hope it's a worthy submission.
