Galah Sessions
OK everybody, this here is a new initiative ive come up with and refined through discussion with others.
Flynn had not only removed the curse of time and distance, he had opened up exciting new possibilities. When he replaced the Morse keyboard with a voice microphone, next-door families hundreds of kilometres apart were suddenly true neighbours. 'Galah sessions', the outback chat over the back fence, became a cherished part of life.
For those unknowing, thats a pretty close description of what this thread is about. Now we're all known in UCP for being fairly sporadic in going off topic, often attracting an audience in doing so, but i think there comes a time where we have to take ourselves a bit more seriously. Believe it or not, people will be looking for automotive related info in the Aussie forums :p Im hoping this initiative will keep that spirit alive however though, as the original Galah Sessions connected people 2000+km apart 60 years ago.
A few notes and ground rules im hoping we can all stick to in order to keep this alive:
*This doesnt necessarily end the off topic banter most of the threads turn into. Im hoping however this helps restrict the 1 topic one minute, another topic another minute trends.
*Attention will be made to news and current affairs to keep this alive, as we cant talk about the rate of grass growth forever. I'm hoping to make updates a few times per week in this area, and others are welcome.
*I'll take responsibility for keeping this under control. Im hoping given the lighthearted nature, nothing is taken to heart that would otherwise seem out of place, but nevertheless if theres a problem, just ask.
*Just because this is in the Aussie Forums and aimed at fellow members, EVERYONE is welcome and likewise NO-ONE shall be excluded. This being the 21st century, im hoping we can put our own spin on this formula.
Now all we need is a starting topic. Luckily theres plenty in the news.
The other night on the news, the first fatality of Cyclone Larry appeared. An elderly man in his 60's was found in a caravan thought to be abandoned. Perhaps luckily, it was found he suffered a heart attack.
I feel sorry for the guy. On one hand i think its a good thing his heart went as opposed to being impaled by the winds :o but you still wonder what happened to make the people there believe the whole place was empty..
Well feel free to ad your views to that...

Rolling over the floor laughing about those aussies once again :D
-
But when we get down to Business no-one does it better;)
Kos has a word came down from god on us:p Are we on probation now:D
I got a little couple of topics, Did anyone see on ACA that peace of shit smashing that bloke in the head 18 times when the guy was already out unconscious?.
And today or yesterday i got one of my back teeth removed it took 35min for one bloody tooth, It left a hole the size of a $2 coin:eek:.

I had 4 taken out for the braces, only took a little jiggle, a bit of a knock and a solid yank. Not to mention the 8 seperate shots of anaesthetic
-
i had 4 fair size holes in my mouth after i had my wisdom teeth out
-
I'd imagine you would do for wisdoms...
The most annoying thing i had afterwards though was how much i kept knocking the teeth at the back of my bottom jaw with those in the middle of my top jaw, as the top and bottom teeth werent precisely the same ones pulled.

i had 4 taken out a few years back, they put me completely under to do it though. no holes in my gums, just massively swollen cheeks :)
-
I dunno how you'd get away with no holes, thats pretty amazing.
I remember the swelling though, and the subsequent laughs from everyone else whenever i tried to talk :p Didnt help that it got done 2 at a time so i could still eat, so it was only one side of my face numb
-
lol, well i had these dissolvable stitches in my mouth, so i was spitting out string for the next week lol.
my face looked like i was on one of those listerine ads :D
-
Haha, automatic flossing there for ya :p
It amazed me though how i got all the local's rather than a general anaesthetic. One for lower jaw, one for upper jaw, one for the lip/mouth and one for the tongue. And that was just one side!
-
see, thats why i just got an intravenous drip to knock me out:D i hate all those needles..
-
off the topic huh
i lost 4 teeth due to getting braces and a further 4 wisdom teeth removed

Maybe on topic are these pics from today & earlier, of toothless galahs on my front lawn plus a few cockatoos for bonus points
-
lol, i hate sulphur crested cockatoo's, they're so destructive

I think they're beautiful
I'm training a particularly friendly one to talk and say 'hello' :D As I type there's a crowd of about 20 galahs not five metres away from me, also green parrots and those lovely rosellas - all daily visitors. Also some lizards as long as your arm - shingle-back & stumpys. Every few days a gang of four huge yellow-tailed black cockatoos drop by, very gentle creatures
Here's Percy our resident Possum nibbling away on an apricot :)
-
lol, we have some black red tailed cockatoo's, but the sulphur crested i've had to drive off repeatedly after they butcher the fruit trees.
-
to return to the dentist stuff :) I had to have taken out for molars three years ago :) However i wasnt such a pussy, i had no anaestaic at all :D it was bleeding upto 11 pm when the were extracted at 3pm :(

I had 2 shots but said i felt something:D And he gave me another:p.
He told me we would start off easy for my first time, But since it was the biggest tooth in my mouth he was sorry:p. My jaw is so bloody sore right now the pressure for 20min pushing and prodding it to then try and rip it out seemed to go on forever, Man that tooth looked big when it was out and it had 3 bloody roots that went forever:p.
The nerves went dead:mad: And the tooth was broken so the worst that could happen was the tooth could brake and leave the nerves in there which then need to be cut out:eek: Lucky for me it came out.
I was 100% shitting my pants for this, I have had my ton sells out which half my throat was cut cause they were massive, Took 5 weeks to east normal food, Had my nose cortarised and ears had gromits stuck in, Which took 3 min of pulling to remove them from my infected ears, that was the worst pain there. Also had a broken nose and had that redone, Wasn't bad that at all. But the teeth they almost made me cry:D I was for 1 hour SlickChicken:p
I'm Still Bleeding in my mouth had it done Wed 9.30am

ahh, biggest problem with cocky's around here is worrying about them landing on your aerial a bit too hard and snapping something. I guess it doesnt help with the neighbours needing massive aerials to get a signal cause of the hills around. I guess im lucky, only need a short aerial cuz its attached to a massive dutch house!

Ahh but didnt that make you wish you DID take the needles :p Save for the taste of anaesthetic in your mouth. They can kill the nerves but not the tastebuds it seems

Yeh i still felt mine, i think only being a local anaesthetic it wont do THAT much benefit, but it wasnt a "argh your ripping my teeth out" feeling, just the pressure against my jaws that someone was applying a fair bit of force over a small area :p

Yeah that pressure is bad like a elephant sitting on your jaw it hurts more then the tooth coming out.
Doesn't that bloody needle hurt going in the inside of the mouth like it's going into your eye almost:p.
-
Its weird, the first 2 were fine, i think they were gum and tongue, but the last 2 did hurt a bit...which is weird considering ive already had half the anaesthetic
-
Hey what happen to the laughing gas we all need some like Lethal weapon 4:D
-
My parents used to own a Rainbow Lorikeet which we called Knock (because it 'knocked' on our glass front door - in reality it was a stupid bird....).
My mother trained it so that when you walked past it's cage it would say 'Come Here'.
So you'd walk up to it....It would then squawk...
PISS OFF! :p
As a current Braces Victim I was lucky because I didn't need any teeth removed. I had two front teeth removed as a child due to overcrowding....
-
Reminds me of my grandparents one, My mum was telling me how when my grandfather got home from work it would yell... Frank's home Agghhhhhh:D
-
we got tons of Cockies in our backyard and they drive off all the nice parrots
-
exactly, i prefer the king parrots.
i have to get council permission before picking off the cockatoos though.
-
exactly, i prefer the king parrots.
They do go well with a peanut sauce :p
-
Hey anyone else feel crappy and sleepy for a few days after they got there teeth out?? Since Wednesday when i couldn't sleep all i have done in the past 48 hours is sleep.
-
Yeah i got that a bit, although it only lasted about 6hrs with the anaesthetic...and subsequent drooling :p
-
I did the drool to:p, But i have had this massive headache and my gum hasn't settle yet, But i must admit he took a good 1hour in there to get one tooth out, And he left my gum swollen on both side and it's still made my face puff up big:(, I only just woke up 40min ago:(
-
I woke up the morning after and my pillow was covered in bloody drool, it was quite gruesome
-
That happens all the time with me, I wake up and half my face is wet :p
Ahhh, the wonders of Braces and a 70% overbite.
-
-
I got mine adjusted today, so needless to say theyre givin me a headache from the strain and all the new, funny bits of wire are digging into my lips
-
Get mine tightened tommorow. not looking forward to it.....
Ah well, I'll just bite on the dentists thumb and exact revenge :p
-
my lip got pinched by the orthodontists pair of plier things today :p
first time thats happened
-
Can't say thats ever happened to me.
Word of advice - Avoid Mars Bars. one of them took of 3 brackets :o.
I get mine off just before my school formal in December, so I should look schmick :p
-
Think ive had mine close to 6 months, so still another 18 to go, then probably a retainer but i think theyre going pretty good, so maybe that 18 will turn into 12.
Ive been lucky with that stuff though, havent broken anything yet despite not being overly concious of anything hard/sticky. Usually the pain of biting into something and the subsequent strain across all the teeth stops me before the imminent breaking of the bond between the tooth and bracket
-
As long as we're talking about painful annoying things, I'd like to join in.
Enough frustration has been vented over a torn Posterior Cruciate Ligament roughly a year ago now, which has taken a LONG time to recover from and has given me a lot of grief.
Overjoyed I was then, when the surgeon said I was free to do whatever I desired again, and that my knee could take it.
Yesterday whilst in the pool with some friends I managed to dislocate my knee quite badly, and haven't been able to walk since. Went to the hospital today the get it checked out cause the pain was still there today after a night's rest. Thankfully there's no break/fracture of the kneecap, but the doctor said it's most likely that my dislocation managed to stretch the ligaments and tendons in my knee, and, possibly, also tore another ligament which connects the knee cap to the lower leg. This is on my OTHER leg, so whilst the left leg is still not fully recovered, not back to what it used to my, I now have to stay off my RIGHT leg because of this goddamn injury. The frustration is unbearable, with the Melbourne Grand Prix coming up, a trip interstate planned for a couple relaxing days and hopefully hang-gliding, and to top it all off a new reliable job which I desperately need to pay everything off and to help me towards my first car.
In short - I'm ****ing pissed off. I don't want to spend another possible 6-7 months off my feet as a result this.
-
Oh believe me, they sneak up on you.
I've taken to eating Bread with Vegimite for breakfast because Toast hurts my teeth (Don't ask....)
Doesn't stop me from my regular diet of Coke and M&M's though :p
I need to get healthy :o
