wasn't there one other experimental ramjet plane, X- something, that went faster? can't remember
The X-15 Project - A Rocket Powered Aircraft - Reached Mach 6-7 (Exact figures cloudy) And is generally considered the fastest plane ever.
Jets - The SR-71 Is the fastest, at mach 3.3.
NASA is working on Ram Jets, but they don't exactly count as jets. Ram jets operate at exteme speeds a conventional jet engine would sputter out at.

thank you, auxillary memory :D
Remember though, the real top speed of the SR-71 is still classified.

My Dad was in the army for 12 or so years (And still works with an Affiliated organisation) and has a fascination with The Space Program and X-Planes.
Trust me, I know far too much about it. More than I'd ever care to....:p
