High School Mechanic
Recently, I've been thinking up what I would do this summer job-wise, and I'm considering getting the training to become a very simple mechanic. I really wouldn't think I'd do any more than replacing oil, brake pads, and other simple stuff, but that would be a great seasonal job for me. I was wondering what my options are, what kind of training I'd need, how long will this training take, how do wages work, etc.
A simple background of me: High school sophomore, 3.7 GPA, honor roll student, perfect attendance, varsity track and football.

thats all you need:)

a lot of places wont hire you unless you're 18, especially dealers- a lot of places would then only hire you as an apprentice, and thats somewhat binding
they would hire you seasonally for washing cars and answering telephones though

A few kids in town work at autobody shops, you dont need to be certified to work there, they do mud work(bondo), welding, and metal work. I think you do have to be 18 to work on car mechanics though, unless you know someone that has a garage. I was considering the same thing for my summer, the age requirement and racing get in the way though :(

Yeah, I was the head detailer at Maaco. I was 19, but had no experience whatsoever at detailing. I learned quick and it worked out famously. I say go for it.

most places require you be 18 for insurance reasons, but if not at this place, go aply.

haha i'm a wide receiver and kicker, so I don't get the smarts knocked out of me very often :)
I actually have a friend who's 17 and he's been working at a gas station changing oil and stuff for 2 years  . He gets some pretty awesome money for a high schooler.
