Open Porsches
Let's say you've decided upon an open Porsche (a convertible). Being a sporty driver you want an "S". Do you get a Carrera S or save some money and get a Boxster S? Now let me complicate it: Let's pretend Porsche offers an option where you can get a Carrera S engine in a Boxster giving it the same performance and price as a Carrera S Cabriolet.
So your choices are:
1) 911 Carrera S Cabriolet
2) Boxster S w/ Carrera S engine
3) Boxster S and some extra cash in your pocket
As always I'm curious what colour combination you'd get it in.
-
I'll take the Carrera S cabriolet. Boxster may be better balanced, but I'd still rather take the Carrera.
-
Boxster with the tent, definitely... (White)
...or go a-huntin' for a 356. (Silver)
-
Boxsters aren't real Porsches.
-
I wouldn't take a Boxster, but how about a Cayman with a GT3 RS engine in it?
You wouldn't say no to that right? :D

So then that must mean you think that 912s, 914s, 924s, 944s, and 968s, aren't either?
I think the 911 Cabriolet is hideous, and the Carrera S engine has only 10 more hp than the Boxster S, so I'd have to go with the Boxster S and cash in hand.
I guess in boring old Platinum Silver Metallic.

I'd have a boxster S and cash in hand. 911 convertibles look like beached whales. Way too much junk in the trunk. The 911 was always a car that should have stayed a hard top.
Boxster not a real Porsche? What made the 911 such a "real" Porsche? The Boxster was inspired by the 550A Spyder, a car which IIRC came a ways before the one that inspired the 911.
The "not a real porsche" argument should promptly be taken to a Cayenne forum.

Mostly agree... of the three options here, the Boxster would be my choice. But I'm sorta backward and would prefer a 356 Speedster or 550. Even a well done TupperSpeedster. Later 911 cabs aren't attractive at all IMO, Porsche should have taken some cues from American hot rodders that knew how to get the proportions right. What I'd really prefer is something like these:

Let me rephrase it.
You'd only get a Boxster if you can't afford a 911.
And yes, the 911 cabriolet isn't exactly a looker either, but it's still better than a Boxster. Mind you, I wouldn't get a Porsche anyway for that sort of money.
I'd get a Mini John Cooper Works anyday... and have A LOT of cash to spare.

Isn't that the case for all of the previously mentioned models?

Better than a Boxster? I've driven both and think otherwise. Prefer the Cayman as well, the balance is nearly perfect and you save $$$ too.
-
Speaking from the perspective of not having driven a 911 or Cayman, I would say I'd prefer the Cayman as it's engine ain't out over it's ass.
I must say that the 911 is much better looking though.
Plus the Cayman and Cayman S are 63k and 75k respectively, whereas the 911 and 911 S are 94k and 109k.

This one.

The Carrera S has 60bhp than the Boxster S, IIRC.

My bad, I was comparing it to the Cayman S.
That doesn't change my view.
