Studebaker Silver Hawk 1959

The Studebaker Hawk models were essentially the continuation of the shape first introduced in 1947, based on the designs from Raymond Loewy. The 1957 model could be easily made out by its first use of explicit tailfins, and apart from some minor cosmetic changes the model stayed in production until 1962, when a Brook Stevens designed new body appeared, which still adopted the Loewy lines, but much more tight.

Top of the range was the Golden Hawk, a two door hardtop with the largest V8 Studebaker had on offer, but still only measuring 289 cid (4.7 liter). But as it sold only 878 cars in 1958, it disappeared from the model range in 1959. This made the Silver Hawk top of the bill, but the engine available now was only 259 cid, or 4.25 liter, which gave 180 bhp. In 1960 the addition “silver” disappeared, leaving only the “Hawk”

Lovely car. Loewy won some industrial design awards for this car, too, when it first came out. They also tried to adapt it to a 4-door sedan, but the lines just didn't work for that application.

This car's also a pretty soughtafter one for Kustomizers, too - it's a little hard to work with this car in some respects, but if you do it right, the results can be stunning.
