Ipods in America
i hate to say it but im going to buy my first ipod!! im going to new york for a holiday so i thought i will get one whilst im out there.
I hear apple gives a worldwide warranty does anyone know if this is true???
Also any americans out there that can give me an idea how cheap a 80gb ipod classic can be out there??
cheers

Apple has world wide warranty on all products that are portable (= macbook, macbook pro, ipod). BUT, in some countries the local repair shops don't have to honour this because it was bought in another country (Sweden does this, no idea about other countries).
-
I believe for the local shops it would depend on if they are a reseller or not for if they choose to honour the warranty. I imagine they'd have to have some sort of formal affiliation with apple to be able to honour the warranties properly which could take some sort of rigmarole to ascertain. On the other hand, I'm merely musing on this. Best idea is to contact your nearest apple related store and just ask them, as they'd be the place you'd be taking it to.
As for cost... try google to start with....

Well depending on your currency I think that buying one in America could be cheaper to you simply because the dollar is so weak (last I checked anyway) but I suppose if your currency is close to the dollar maybe not so much.
-
Many places in NYC will take Euro's and British Pounds now, so I'd look for those ;)
-
Go to the Apple store, there's a few in NYC.
An iPod classic is about $250 USD.

Absolutely. You pay the same in dollars as we pay in Euro's for a lot of goods. On top of that comes the collapse of the dollar, around 1.50 $ = 1 euro nowadays.

$240 CAD here, sometimes $200 when on sale.

buying ipods in USA was always profitable, even including costs of shipping

Yeah I was only kidding. They've got tons of 'em, especially since stores like Macys even carry electronic vending machines for iPods that you pay for on the spot.

You could always check out NewEgg's deals on the iPod but I'm not sure if they ship to England or where you'll be in NYC.

Web based.
They have a warehouse in New Jersey, so they might be able to get it to you in time.
And no, they don't allow people to come by the warehouse to get something.

cheers i cant to go to nyc hope the cloverfield monster doesnt come back, but if it does ill film it!!

Since you're buying the iPod in New York I guess you could call it a "Big Apple iPod" ;)
OK, cheesy joke for the day quota fulfilled. Out of curiosity, how much does an iPod retail for in the US?

I don't know if this works for overseas students, but here, University students/faculty/family of said groups can get Apple goods for a discount. It's not much (free shipping + a few cents for me) but it's still better than nothing.
