Buying Model Cars
I'm just curious, I'm in the US and I just got a massive interest in model cars. I'm specifically looking at Tomica or Kyosho 1/64 scale cars- specifically a NSX Type R and an old racing GT-R. They're about $13 each, probably not including shipping and taxes and stuff.
Are there any reputable dealers that any members can suggest?
I also have family in Hong Kong, so it's not out of the question for them to buy from there and ship here if it ends up that it's still cheaper there, factoring in the fact that I'll probably be visiting in a couple months.
I've heard the Tomica brand before, how is Kyosho?

Kyosho has been around a long time... and makes nicely detailed 1:24 and 1:18 diecasts for the money (not cheap).
I've seen their 1:43 models but had no idea they did 1:64. What level of detail is possible at that size?
-
I have a 1:18 Maisto CLK-GTR road going, Mini Cooper, 996 Carrera Targa and a S2000. They're okay I guess. Interior is a bit low rent.
Kyosho does make 1/64 sized cars. The smaller the cars, the more I can buy. :D
I didn't want to link directly to the page so I sent you a PM. Thing is, I'm not sure how reliable the company is.

If you want the ones you build from little pieces of unpainted plastic, go for Tamiya, especially the ones with an engine.

Oh yes, I know about Tamiya, I just wasn't planning on building anything.

I recently found out this online shop, based in Hong kong, they have a large range of these cars.

I bought 6, 1:64 scaled Pagani Huayras from them, and they usually arrive earlier than expected. Friendly guy too :-)

Btw, if you're looking for more expensive, rarer models, there are 2 great shops in HK.
Wing Jet Models: Update Your Browser | Facebook
New Ace Models: NEWACE
I bought a MR Collection Aventador and a Tecnomodel One-77 from New Ace when I was last there, at the beginning of the year.
Both of them have online shops for you to buy models from too.

That's the company I was going to buy from!
I was going to post up the link to their site, but I didn't want to advertise for them if they were a bad company.
Good to hear that they're okay and reputable.
Thanks for your other recommendations!
I hope this doesn't become a downward spiral to a growing collection of little cars...

It will. Trust me.
And it'll only end once you are out of money or space.
Or both.

Ohhhh, yeah. ;) I collect larger scale mostly, some of the most impressive series-produced products are from CMC. For the money, Kyosho
and AutoArt are good value. When I get a chance to finish up the current project I'll revive (or start) a diecast appreciation thread.

Interesting that Kyosho produced the mid-engined 356 in black, I would have sworn that the one I saw (the only one) is painted silver...

In fact, dozens of dollars of model cars are not worth mentioning, I like CMC model cars. As you mentioned, CMC has the most exquisite craftsmanship, the most abundant details. A few days ago I saw the Porsche 901, a very ornate model on the Johnalexpro.com, and I plan to buy one。
