Looks: Front-engine vs. mid-engine?

What sportcars look better?

Front-engine with their long hoods and short decks.
or mid-engine with short hoods and a big bulgy midsection?

Front engined, unless it's mid engined. In which case it's mid engined, unless it's front engined. Occasionally it's rear engined, but that's less common.

Sometimes a low hoodline can be achievable with a front engined car.

See the Honda Prelude, 2nd generation.

But the styling of the NSX is fine for me too, and that's mid engined.

Both works fine for me.

Context is important I think.....both can look fantastic and they don't necessarily have a set look....something like a Miura is like a mid engine car with front-engine-like proportion(long hood). While early 90s Lotus Elan(FWD) looks like a mid engine car despite it being a FF layout...

PS: Some of the best looking cars are rear-engined.

funny that you mention the Daytona, which in my book is one of the ugliest Ferraris ever made....perhaps my opinion is tainted because it appeared after Lamborghini had shown the world the Miura and Ferrari could not do more than coming up with the Daytona. And a Lusso loses all grace put next to a 330 GTC.

I prefer the Lusso, more elegant to my eyes.

As for the Daytona the proportions are just about perfect.

And anyway, the greatest looking cars ever made, pre-war cars, are front engined.

Imagine if Figoni and Falaschi would have had a chance to cloth the Miura chassis...

It still wouldn't have looked as good as the Gotte d'Eau, would it?

and there is the SM of course..but yes the Ghibli looks much better than a Daytona.

I like the Daytona.. but then, I had a Rover SD1 so I would.

I agree. Maybe it has a nice engine and layout, but the looks are all wrong.

Seconded. I never understood why they are worth so much. Maybe it drives well, but I'm sure the new Ferrari California drives well too. I don't think that's worth close to if not more than $200 large.

It doesn't drive well at all apparently. It feels like a truck, they say. And the gearbox explodes everytime you go for second, if it's cold.

But it was the last of a breed.

Mid-engined it looks nice from a side angle profile
