Thanks, good read. Nothing too surprising, but it's always nice to peek into the past.
Reading it currently.
What's a West Coast P.O.E. sticker that the author mentioned in the article about the Porsche?
I'm guessing it has to do with importation of the car.

Yeah, I think it is importation. P.O.E. means port of entry.
I sense a long thread coming...

Thanks.

Maybe, maybe not. :D
I sense a long thread coming...
Why? The author of the article printed the facts and figures of both cars and gave his evaluation and opinion of both cars.
Some will agree with him and some won't.
I truly hope this doesn't turn out to be another "Corvette ZR1 vs. 997 Turbo yo" thread, but from the 1970's...
Anyway, thanks for sharing Fleet, 'twas a nice read.

Rated at 370 gross hp; maybe about 290 net? Whatever it is, it does top 100 mph in the 1/4 mile, and ran low- 14s, even with those skinny tires.

Keep in mind, there were more exotic Corvettes out there as well. ZL1s rocked aluminum 427s with weight reduction and were good for a claimed 430 hp gross, but actually about 500-550 gross hp, what that is in net hp is still a huge amount more than basically any other car around.
Tuned and toyed with ZL1s on slicks could tun the quarter mile in just under 10.9 seconds - mind you these were not stock. Suffice to say, ZL1s were fast. Very fast. Only two factory Corvettes have gone faster so far, the Z06 ran a faster 10.8 and a one off beast with a prototype 454 LT1 enigne that kissed 10.6 supposedly.
Corvettes are sick.

Oh, yeah. The 'Vette which Motor Trend tested was relatively mild compared to the ones you posted and including the L-88 427 'Vettes.
