McLaren F1 LM & other supercars featured at the London Motorshow

[b]McLAREN F1 AT THE BRITISH INTERNATIONAL MOTOR SHOW [/b]

The stunning McLaren F1 LM, resplendent in its McLaren Orange livery, will be on display in the Super Car Paddock at the British International Motor Show from the 20th-30th of July. Taking place at the ExCel London exhibition centre, the British International Motor Show is the ultimate day out for anyone passionate about road cars. McLaren is pleased to support the British Motor Show with the presence of a McLaren F1 LM.

The display of the McLaren F1 LM is a unique opportunity to view the ultimate and most exclusive version of the McLaren F1. With 680 bhp and weighing some 60kg less than the F1 road car, the F1 LM is the fastest accelerating F1 of all.

The McLaren F1 LM was produced to commemorate McLaren's extraordinary feat of winning the Le Mans 24 Heure endurance race at the first attempt in 1995. A road going version of the 1995 F1 GTR, with the minimum modifications to make it usable on the road, only five LM's exist in the world - one for every F1 GTR which finished the race.

The LM runs the most powerful engine of any F1, road or race, by using an 1995 GTR engine without the air restrictors. It also features the race car aerodynamics, gearbox and 18" inch wheels. Inside the LM, the driver sits in an all carbon fibre race seat, and the passenger seats are moulded into the moncoque. With minimal trim, the interior carbon is beautifully finished in high gloss lacquer.

Looks like it's worth a visit just for the Caparo T1 and the F1LM. Too bad I'm nowhere near that part of the planet ;)

I wish I could go. McLaren's facility told me they wouldn't be holding anything open to the public until the fall, and this would be my only chance to catch it.

Yes - should be XP1LM on display. There aren't many chances to see an LM where you actually get advanced notice and this should not be missed if you can make it.

went today, saw this little F1 LM bearing it face and almost wet myself! here are some pics (well, everyone crouded round so i got 1 of the car, 1 of the ear defenders it comnes with!)

Just a shame about the lack of the VAG group, seemed stupid seeing as they are actually trying to sell cars!

i was amazed by the ear mufflers, i love that mikka hakinen "turbo whine" vid purely because of the noise of the F1, why anyone WOULDNT want to hear that i have no idea!

what I meant was that unlike whoever put jean alesis dtm car and a mclaren f1 weren't trying to sell them, but VAG (except Seat and Bentley) are, and I'm syure having a stand helps, without them it felt a tad... empty

And I wish that they wouldn't let the kids touch the car, one days worth of little hands has left the finish above the door ruined and the door trim above is hanging off on a poor elise

Thanks Equinox,unfortunatly i have never seen the lark liveryed model ,but it looks great.I can never decide which was my favourite race colours,most looked good.
I have been amazed by people knowledge about the F1,especially Peloton25.I thought i knew a bit,but nothing compared to him !
The Mclarens popularity is amazing how it has gone up over the years.Price's of memorabilia & models on E-bay have rocketed.
I first saw them race at Donington in 1995,and have usually managed to see one each year since then at some show.Got a decent collection of photo's,models,programmes,press packs etc. Funds allways limit how far you can go.
Last year called at a garage in UK who had a Ferrari F50gt & a orange GTR next to each other.What a sight.Obviously it was not something you see every day.It was a shame the salesman would not let me photograph them!!!.

Hey Mr. Kipling, who do you work for and how did you break into automotive jurnalism (which I assume is what you do)? I'm working as a reporter for an understaffed medium-sized daily newspaper here in pig-fuk'd Arkansas, but I really need to be writing for a car magazine. I've heard that it's one of the hardest divisions of journalism to crack into...
But I've got moxy and spunk and lots of American sass, so I'm sure that somethign will work out.

Anyway, the Briston Blenheim is my new favorite car in the whole world. It's the perfect "trans-continental express" for gentlemen of refined taste with a keen sense of melancholie wistfulness for the days of the Berlin Wall.
I understand that when you turn the key in a Blenheim, an eerily glowing mist fills the cabin and the voice of William Hurt bellows powerfully "THOOUUSANDS OF YEEAARS AGOOUGH, AAALL THAT YOU SEE BELONGED... ... ... TOTHEDRUIDS!," accompanied by nightmarish flugelhorn and pipe organ music.
Then the engine may or may not start, depending on the fancy of the ghost of Queen Victoria, who personally haunts each and every Blenheim for the first 60,000 miles (extendable to 100,000 for a few hundred thousand pounds).
I hope they go on making Blenheims for another 30 years, and I'm being very serious. As far as I can tell, they're still the only purveyor of genuine British luxury cars.
That Connaugh (or however it's spelled) is very interesting too, with its tiny V-10, and I love the styling. It looks a bit like a new-age Mk 1 Escort.

Endemic example of USNewsspeak: "...bit her dog Sunday...".

All these news stories from small/medium/large news sites I get linked too on Fark are almost always written in this useless gibberish. It makes no sense, they might as well be writing it in French.

As for becoming an auto journalist - have you done any writing about cars?

Does your current employer have an automotive section?

If yes, ask if you can write anything for them.

If no, suggest they do, and ask if you can write anything for them.

That's not U.S. Newsspeak (though that's a good name for it.) That's Associated Press (AP) style, and it's the norm throughout the journalistic world, except in England where English still survives in isolation.
I've written an article about hybrid in which I snuck in a few "test drive" paragraphs from driving a Toyota Prius, and somehow I got paid to compete in a SCCA Autocross (and won my class). But I didn't get to put much "thrill of driving" into it.
The big story I'm putting together this week is a roundabout's impending construction on one of my town's busyest roads. People here in Arkansas seem to have roundabouts confused with crop circles, are ****ing terrified and furious. It's really amazing. One random citizen I enterviewed said "I've gone through two of those damn things. One in Missouri and the other in Kansas, and I almost got killed both times..." Crazy old hag.
People here are actually so stupid that they think a roundabout is much more dangerous than a 4-way stoplight.
Maybe I'll change somebody's mind. I've been working all week compiling fifteen different kinds of shit about how much safer, more efficient, looking good on charts and graphs and pie-slices and every other ****ing argument for them, but it will do no good. Even some of my fellow reporters in the news room are terrified of roundabouts (increasingly referred to as "roundy-rounds" in this town.)

This is what H.L. Mencken called "The Sahara of the Bozart." read it and understand my pain: an honest hillbilly living among rednecks.
Anyway, the paper's too small to break itself into specialized markets, and Americans, for the most part, know ****-all about cars, and don't care to learn. That's why most of our car magazines suck; they're all sizzle and no steak, sort of like Top Gear. But the paper's going through some changes and the fat chick that sits across from me is doing movie reviews. Maybe I could propose a monthly car review. Intriguingly, the local Ford dealership somehow has a GT... Ideally, I'd get hired onto Evo or Octane, as they seem to have the most integrity of any car magazine I've come across.
