OK, I randomly found a print of Rene Arnoux in a Ferrari F1 car in a storage room at the newspaper I work at. There is no info as to where the photo was taken, what GP it was, what year or anything. I have run a number of Google searches and cannot find the image.
Any suggestions how to go about figuring it out?
-
^^^ Post the photo... is it the 126C or 156/85? Did your paper have someone actively covering F1? It could be a wire photo from one of the USGPs... Detroit in '83 - '85, likewise Long Beach for USGP West. Just a suggestion but check the newspaper archives, at least it's probably digitized. Microfiche searches are a PITA.
Now I wanna see it!

Seconded!;)

Go by racing number, sponsor stickers (may be slightly different from race to race), some minor details, surroundings etc. Or, indeed, post a photo and we will all think :)
-
I will scan in the photo tomorrow, if I can. As near as I can tell, sponsorship, design, number point to the 126C.
If our paper did indeed cover an F1 race it would have been one of the Detroit ones (we're in northern Indiana and Detroit is a couple hours away). I think it could be a wire photo, but I wonder why there isn't a caption or anything attached to the back.
My paper, being small in resources, only has microfilm so I probably can't take time out of my day to search through it just to find if/when we ran a photo nearly 30 years ago, haha!!

Here's the 126C3 at Detroit in '83, Arnoux took pole on a sunny quali day, but DNF'd on lap 28 with electrical problems. Wet race.
Note how far forward the driver sits during this era.

Well here it is. Another clue: the back says it was processed in September of 1983. If it is a wire photo the paper ran there were only two GPs in Sept. of '83; Brands Hatch (European GP) and Monza. If was taken by one of our photogs at Detroit, say, it would have just been a print made after the fact.
Either way I think it's a cool photo.
