Wierd, I've never seen or heard of these kind of "trucks" before. They're like modern day al caminos.
No, they're pickup trucks that are civilised.
As far as I'm concerned, they're the bee's knees. I read a review for one back in 2002 (?) and it was truly awesome thing. And because it's a pickup, it has commerical vehicle road tax... :D

I take it that tax is cheaper?
LOL So in other words your telling them to stop the BS and be honest as it's not all true anymore:D There is a new sheriff in town:D
Well it never was true ..
All the Americans got was a bullshit advertising campaign from Dodge which falsely claimed their 2006-model SRT-10 was supposedly the "world's fastest pickup" It never was
Meanwhile in the real world (Australia) that ACTUAL vehicle model has been on sale here since April 2004 :D
I wonder how long dodge.com will keep this crap (below) on their website?

GM owns Holden right? So it would be fairly easy to rebody it and bring it to the states as a Chevy model. I wish they would because a truck like that would be perfect for my practical needs, and with a V8 all my needs.

The concept of of car-based utilities was invented in Oz and they have been continually produced here since the late 1920s
For an example here's two uniquely Australian oldies from my hard drive:
1937 Chevrolet Coupe Utility
1941 Pontiac >Roadster< Utility .. would this be the final factory-production GM Roadster in passenger-car format?
(both factory-Holden built)

In the states it would have a gaz guzzler tax...not cheaper.
I take it that tax is cheaper?
Yes, much :D
MG pulled a similar ploy a few years ago when they made the MG ZR into a van... they just blocked the windows at the back.

Its another body variant of Holden Commodore platform, which includes sedans in SWB & LWB, crewman, wagon, ute, the One Tonner (tray-truck) and Monaro coupe which is aka Pontiac GTO. Apart from One Tonner, all other versions including the Ute feature optional/standard V8 (6.0 litre L76) and IRS, most are available with manual 6speed

IIRC the related Pontiac GTO 6-speed has no gass-guzzler tax and is heavier than Maloo LS2 ute
-
But what does something like that do? other then Guzzle fuel make life hard when parking and a bitch to clean:p.
But we have similar but we have a differnt way of life with our utes.
We have something like that, Its called the baja:p
That Maloo is pretty cool looking, but how are they off-road?
-
They're not designed for off-road, so probably just as well as US pickups. We don't use these sort of utes for off-road stuff, they're mostly used by tradies. People who need a ute with off-road by a Hilux 4x4, or Landcruiser or Patrol utes.
UK members should start seeing these on the road soon, if not now, they're being imported into the UK by TWG. And there's no reason why you can't import them into the US, the Commy platform is designed for RHD.
-
A lot of people use thier stock trucks and jeeps for off roading, at least around here.
-
Yeah, but that's because a truck is different to a ute
And there's no reason why you can't import them into the US, .
25 year rule
-
25 year rule
Which is?
And I just remembered something actually. After we kindly sent you the GTO, and the UAE acted like dickheads, there was this whole big thing about other Holdens going to the US. The ute, particularly the SS, was right up there, as potential replacement for the El Camino. The SS is the ute the Maloo is based on, used to have the LS1, now has the L76. 6-speed, IRS, all the fruit. Honestly, it would've sold damn well I reckon. But the UAE wasn't going to allow it. So y'all missed out.
