Bugatti Veyron
i would have the Bugatti Veyron looks beter than the ssc and Probably more reliable
i would have the Bugatti Veyron looks beter than the ssc and Probably more reliable
Or possibly many more things which can possibly go wrong in the Bugatti, starting with its own delicate design.
There is a reason why the Veyron is the only car with a limited warranty of only 50.000 km and the stupidest maintenance bills in the automotive scenario.
-
I wonder what it would cost just to do the brakes on a Veyron. I'm willing to bet you could buy a brand new M5 and mod it with the same money.
edit: *light goes on*
It'd be great to have a "Cost of Ownership" thread where people can gather and arrange as much information as possible on annual expenses with any vehicle from A - Z. It would take an eternity to establish a decent foundation, but boy what an incredible archive of knowledge that would be.
-
I think I've read somewhere just a Sang Noir's wheel will cost you about 25k €.
It may have possibly be the whole set of wheels, still insane.
-
I think a set of tyres for a Veyron is tens of thousands of quid as well.
-
Plus you have to ship the car (or maybe just the wheels if you want to bet there is no need for balancing them) to the factory to have the new set installed properly.
-
I think there's a place in the US that'll do it too, but yea. Two places in the world you can go for a set of tyres... don't wear em out too soon!

That's just the Ultimate Aero though, right?
i would tack the Bugatti the ssc has nothing going for it only the speed
Well for one it's not just a fugly, over powered, overly complicated, poorly designed VW.
For another it also has great braking, set some crazy slolom speeds and closely matches the performance of the Veyron for a fraction of the price to buy and maintain it. Most of the people who assume it has nothing else going for it have never actually payed attention, they just assume. Not saying it's the greatest car in the world (nor do I want it,) but still.

This. And lol. Though I think some of the price may come from the fact that they insist everything be done by them in france. For that much you'd think they'd do house calls.
I think a set of tyres for a Veyron is tens of thousands of quid as well.
US $25,000 was what I heard and they said you had to ship it to france. Though it was just the news and they tend to get details about cars like that wrong so if there is a place this side of the atlantic, that would be nice.
Edit: I had thought the production run of the Veyron was supposed to be 400+, and this: Bugatti Veyron production run nearly sold out? Autoblog from almost 2 years ago says 450.

I wouldn't say that UCP is full of fanboys (they would not be tolerated), but we have a few official apologists: you for SSC, Ferrer for old Italian cars, culver for GM/Detroit, Leon for Zonda (I guess if someone smack talked them he would go to bat for them; he hasn't had to but I'd say he would), henk for diesels...
It's great! Civil, intelligent conversation/debate/argument!

lol. Though Car and Driver did a test up in Montreal that put the Honda Fit vs Mazda 2 vs Ford Fiesta to the test. Results (according to them) were 1. Fit 2. 2 3. Fiesta.
Yoink: Ford Fiesta vs. Honda Fit vs. Mazda 2 Comparison Test - Car and Driver
-
Yes, I read.
They talked smack of the 401 (which is legit) - a mostly straight road from Windsor to the Quebec border (where it becomes 20 or something) and onto Quebec City and beyond!
The Fit seems more practical, I think the 2 is rather nice looking. The exterior/interior is the best of the 3, and I think it is probably the funnest to drive - if not less practical than the Fit and less powerful than the Fiesta.

You don't like yours? Or just the newer AWD ones?

At least you'll admit to it and not defend with the classic "its not pink, its salmon!" line :D

I do believe the Grimace is his Mom's.
His Dad rocks a 996 GT3.
How lame is it to have a family of Porsches in your family?
clutch, atone for this!

Someone started talking bad about the Zonda?! ;)
Put Maserati and Aston Martin on my favorite menu as well.

Hey I like anything that's interesting.
It's just that most italian cars are interesting. Or something.

any of the watercooled ones, they sound terrible and are usually AWD (buy a ****ing evo then if you don't want to drive!)

yup, in Rob's defense, i do drive it a lot. i guess for practical purposes it is 'mine' in the sense that if i want to drive it somewhere i can?

The Turbo chargers kind of tend to take away from the sound of the engine don't they? My friend's watercooled, turbo-less 4S sounds like a lion. I love it. But again, its AWD so that kind of blows.

can't go wrong with that. At least you don't have to pay for any cost of ownership aside from the gas you use.
-
and my share of the insurance of course ;)
and my share of the insurance of course ;)
Is insurance reasonable in Aus? I pay around $300/month for the TT, although thats with a surcharge smacked on top because I destroyed my Jetta, which pushed my rates up. Still though it would be around the $250/month mark.
-
$1200 AUD per year for me in the 964 full comp, salvage rights etc
down to $270 for the triumph, same coverage.

wow thats dirt cheap. We have terrible insurance in BC because there isn't any competition. Its the Insurance Corporation British Columbia, and it is tied to the government. They are the highest earners in the province, and because the government gets most of the pie, we may never see any competition offering better rates.
I priced out an early 90's Diablo just for fun one day when I was in renewing my insurance, and at a 0% discount I got quoted over $6,000/year:eek:. For that money I expect monthly scheduled blow jobs included.

Ehhh... The competition doesn't help in this case. Ontario pays ridiculous rates out of it's ass. $6,000 a year doesn't even sound that bad to me offhand (no, it is ridiculously low actually as you will soon see). Manitoba pays some of the lowest rates in Canada and it's provincially run - I think they run it at no cost. So, if at the end of the year they found they overcharged, everyone in the province gets a cheque.
Oh.... you are very wrong. Here, public rates are the lowest in Canada - significantly so. The free market works!

My buddy has a 2006 Camry, has been driving since 17, no accidents, no tickets, and pays 2200 a year.
My Dad pays 5k a year on a 2001 TL with him as primary, my Mom as secondary, and me as tertiary.
Toronto pays the highest rates in Canada (big cities are clearly higher), and Alberta some of the highest in the country, and Alberta is notorious for being very business/competition friendly.
-
we no longer have tertiary/primary/secondary drivers here any more iirc. it's simplified to either you're on the plan, or not. :(

You guys truly pulled the shortest straw in Ontario huh. I thought we had it bad in BC.
The great thing (if you can call it that) with the high end car insurance scene is that we have winter here in Canada, and that we therefore don't have to feel bad for insuring the thing for only 2 - 4 months out of the year. The maximum anyone in southern BC could really justify driving a Ferrari or Lambo would be 6 months. So even with a half years worth of driving, you've cut your cost of insurance in half. The rest of the time only requires fire/theft/vandalism, which is dirt cheap in comparison. Sad about the weather, but I wouldn't mind saving some coin for constant repairs lol. On down days, at least they're pretty enough to just sit there and look good. I would be that guy that sat in his garage drinking beer and staring at his Ferrari.
