Early E46 M3s had of problems with oil surge (resulting in blown engines). I think there was a recall but don't quote me on that.
SMG boxes should be fine unless you are getting an E36 M3 with SMG...
Not always, especially with 4WD cars.
There's no need to mess with an Evo's dynamics. By shortening the wheelbase I'd say it's lost a lot of its handling characteristics - they may as well convert it to front wheel drive now.
