I voted GS - but only purely because it's the IS' big brother.

In actual fact, they're all very good cars and I've been in all of them except for the A6. The Lexus is most likely to have the best reliability. The Merc is (arguably) the best in terms of passenger comfort. The BMW is the most sporty and probably the best driver's car. The Audi is underrated but still top notch.

Hmm, which posh car would I buy for myself?

    Lets see....

Oh yes - Alfa 166, thank you very much

It certanly isn't most prestigious nor well-built executive car - yet 166 has something that really rocks my boat.

Out of Waugh-terfall's choices I'd pick BMW 5-series (if it is from 1970s, of course )

Yes, The Lexus' are very nice. I was only going to include the German Trio but I couldn't help but add the GS. It has no options list! Everything is standard and at a good price too, they look great, go well and just have an awesome air around them.

As with the Alfa 166, being 6ft 4, I have great difficulty getting into any Alfa.
No offence here at all but Alfa's will break down all the time and the 166 especially will depreciate faster than you can say bugger.

Alfa's look great though, but again, 166 is outdated now.

Well, according to www.reliabilityindex.co.uk, Alfa has a reliability index 165 while Audi has 157. For comparison, most reliable manufacturer is Skoda with R.I. 51, while average R.I. being around 100.

My point is - Audi should break down as often as Alfa . My old man used to own Audi A4 - he wasn't a happy bugger. Also, depreciation was almost half of purchase price over three years.

Other than reliability and depreciation issues - Audis are bloody nice.

    Let's see...

My dad's A6 was the most unreliable POS ever.
Mercedes look all the same, boring..
GS... I don't know. I don't see myself driving it, maybe if I were 60.

Not that I like the 5-Series or anything, but I'm gonna have to go for it in this poll.

2001 2.8 A6 Avant. My dad drives like a grandmother and loves to take care of his cars like no one else... All of his cars have made it through hundreds of thousands of miles... Yet this Audi broke down time after time... 'Till it reached 90k miles and the dealership suggested a new transmission of about $10k, needless to say my dad sold it and bought a Japanese car.

Same deal with my sister's Cabrio. We still have it, but not for long.

Ouch, I reckon he had a diff one, and I don't think the 2.8 was a particularly good engine, My Dad used to have a 1999 A6 1.8T sedan, never had a singel problem, other than a blown tweeter, replacement MAF and ABS system. All this happened at 100,000miles, sold it at 108,500miles, loved it.
