Just had a quick look on natsoft, saw that Qlder Steve Thompson had a win.

Whats the deal with Stephen Thompson at the nats the other year at PI he punted adam allan off the track, last year at the state round before the nats he punted off Scotts Clemments. Here and at Baskerville he touched up a few guys and also punted ledger off when he wouldnt let him go bye. He seems like a bit of a biff and barger and then he on the IPRA website whinging he had got the rough end of the pineapple . Seems to me every event he's in he puts someone off the track with some fairly crude overtaking moves and seems very impatient.

Whats your take on him in regards to his driving behavior in your state rounds.?

Maybe us SA guys just like keeping our cars straight

Still looks like a pretty decent circuit Charged. Might have to look around and see what Oran Park and Eastern Creek charge for hire, and also what sort of freight charges anyone would be up for if they wanted to try Baskerville out $110 a day is nothing, i dont know if you'd go through that much in just fuel.

Well great pics, got a real sense of what Baskerville looks like, it seems (to a Queenslander at least) to be something of a cross between Lakeside and Morgan Park, some pretty quick looking corners coupled with elevation...much better than the Paperclip ...must admit I didn't recognise too many of the names, must have been a lot of locals with a smattering of your boys, some Victorians and of course some Cockroaches (NSW)...Steve Thompson was the only one I recognised from here apart from the Wilkinsons MK2 Escort which is driven by the son in NSW and dad (Graham) here in the Sunshine state. Having a quick look on natsoft and it seemed like everyone got a very decent go...I see the final was 25 laps, bet some of the quicker cars were marginal on fuel
The Steve Thompson issue..I can only speak of people as I find them, and he has never caused me or ballast any grief, however ballasts' remarks about the frontrunners being impatient when coming off the back of the grid are true...he's (ballast) been touched up a couple of times which does piss you off, the guys up the front here are on pretty big budgets, and a ding to them is something of a trophy...a bit different when you are scratching to get from one meeting to another, but I guess that's the way it goes sadly
None the less it did look like a great weekend, and I thing Scott Fleming is a worthy champion, he was up here a couple of years ago for the Nats...and seemed like a nice enough bloke.
On your earlier post about the Nationals in QLD next year, it would be nice if the were at Lakeside, it's a hell of a track...however I think it would be unlikely for a variety of reasons, but hope springs eternal! More likely to be at QR, but either way the beers are cold and I look forward to catching up with you guys whether you bring your turbo-rockets or not.

Not quite sure what you meant by "is there a mini specific event?"...do you mean an event or class solely for Minis?....or some sort of downsized event?
Either way, club-level motorsport is easily accessible at a variety of levels, it all just depends on how committed you are, and how deep your pockets
Not sure just how much you follow the club-level stuff but if you want to get in at the ground level you should look at joining a CAMS affiliated club, the MG Car Club of QLD is a good place to start. They organise sprints at QR, motorkhanas, night-runs (like rally but observing road rules, more of a team map-reading exercise), and especially hillclimbs at their venue at Mt Cotton, next to the Driver Training Centre just off Mt Cotton Rd. They are a good bunch to get in at the ground level, plenty of old heads willing to help. You don't have to own an MG to be a member (and isn't that a blessing! ) If you are looking at jumping straight into racing, well as you can tell we are all fans of Imp Production here, and you can race pretty much anything which is the beauty of the class. If that is your thing, you will need to have a CAMS license, suit, helmet etc...it gets a bit expensive, but as my dad says "Cut your cloth to suit your coat." Anyway always happy to help, you can always pm if you want to know any more...you should come out to the next round at QR, it's not a bad way to spend a day

The circuit is a ball tearer, needs longer straights for our turbo's though. We were joking at the workshop we should move to Hobart and hire the track and a rental Fezza or something and absolutely cane it there for a day.

I know what you mean, some guys are happy unless they swap paint. We hate panel damage. Prefer nice clean racing, but that cant always be the case.

sweet, thanks i've heard good things about the sprints, but when the organiser has a 300ZX with a gazillion horsepower it understandably intimidates some of the prospective drivers
i'm hoping to attend the next mt Cotton hill climb as that is 5 minutes down the road

Mini cost too much to get reasonably fast, we have a few guys who race them in SA in IPRA and the price they pay for some bits is crazy.

If I was going the u2l route, I would personally go a imported Mirage Cyborg or a Honda like black hondas and ballast. Those things are definetley very rapid motors. They had a Mirage Cyborg at Tassie in the Targa class and it came second only beaten by a very rapid 4wd lancer.

In regards to entry level motorsport it can cost you very little or if your loaded the skys the limit. At the Nats keith ledger was next to us and his crew 7 in all, they all flew over from Perth, they had spares everywhere, a spare ppg dog box, on the Saturday they got a guy from adelaide to fly to hobart to drop some more spare over to them and he flew back the next day.

Ray Hislop is the same, he runs aEB GT that needs to be seen to be believed, he had 4 sets of spare wheels and tyres for his falc and his pit set up is fantastic. He runs a V8 supercar engine stroked to 5.8 litres that runs to over 8500rpm and puts out well over 700hp. He is actually bin the process of building a BF Falcon with similar running gear. He is one of the nicest guys you could meet.

Then you have us normal guys that have to work to race and have minimal spares , maybe a couple of spare tyres incase we flatspot some and maybe a spare turbo and other bits and peices.
