Schumacher should retire. Best piece of car control ever by Massa. Alonso has a good chance of winning the title if he or the team doesn't **** up.

Bleh, the snotty brat wins again. He is good there though.

Thought maybe Buttons better tire management would help him the last several laps.

Alonso is the best driver on the grid, and he has been for some time by my reckoning. It looks like he will get the title this year. I keep pulling for Kimi; he seems so close to getting a win but it just never pans out.

Real hard luck for Pastor and Hammy.

That was a long-ass race. F1 sometimes makes me appreciate the sprint nature of MotoGP.

    I agree.

Maybe in terms of raw speed Hamilton is slightly ahead, but in terms of the overall package he is the best in F1 right now (and for some time as you say).

In raw speed, I would put Kimi on a good day up there too.

Alonso may even be faster on raw speed. He just only uses 100% seemingly when shit needs to get done.

Kimi is inconsistent and Hamilton is impetuous.

Alonso is lightning quick all the time.

Button lost his advantage when he had to pit under the safety car. I think he could have run longer again on that set of tyres, so he would have had fresher tyres towards the end.

I like Kimi, but I feel that somewhat his time on F1 has passed (not to the pathetic extent of Mr. Schumacher, though). I'd like to seem him fight for the championship, but I doubt it'll happen.

I think that Hamilton is the driver, much like Clark, Senna or McRae. This might result in crashes and retirement due to abuse, but on a good day nothing can touch them.

Alonso on the other hand is more like Prost or Sainz. Undoubtedly fast, but even better if the equipment isn't really perfect. They are also able to develop a mediocre car into a winning machine. They are consistent, but usually not very spectacular.

Pretty ridiculous statement considering without a win, he is sitting 3rd in points on his return to F1 and not in a McLaren, Ferrari, or Red Bull.....

Give Kimi a fast enough car he can still win. Renault is simply not quite fast enough yet week in and week out. They are closer in some races and much further off in others...

Schumacher is having a odd ball year....he is faster than he was since comeback, but he is having more silly driver error.

After a few years of pretty stellar reliability with the current style of cars, more and more cars starting to have reliability issues, I wonder if its a sign of how hard the teams are pushing as the gap in performance between cars are so small....

Kinda boring race overall, punctuated by some pretty good wheel to wheel stuff...

I wouldn't necessarily say Alonso is the fastest driver on the grid, but he is much more calculating than most of the grid, backed up by raw talent. You hardly ever see him crash or lose his control, he is always level headed. Not to mention, he has a great demeanor, which alot of his contemporaries are lacking.

I'm not saying he isn't fast, but it feels to me that he has lost a bit of the ultimate bite that sets apart a great racing driver from a good one.

Also, continously talking about life outside F1, is not a good sign.

I also get the sensation that he is in third more because of rival's mistakes rather than ouright pace.

Then again, I could be completely wrong.

By that logic, Alonso is also not deserving of his position in the championship.

Kimi is the last true character in F1, though. I don't even know for sure why I started following Kimi. Maybe because Hakkinen was about to retire and because he was a dark horse back then when he was given a four-race permission in his debut year. He was not a wallet, but a 'fast guy', and he proved that on many occasions. On the other hand, his habit of not caring about the media makes him favour IMO. While it may be not too pleasant for interviewers to be nearly ignored and receive Y/N answers, he shows that he's a driver and a human on first place, not just somebody's commercial product. I also can't recall him whining about his teams, unlike some others when they do not succeed. His return to F1 brought maybe even more talks and speculations than Schumacher's second coming, and that's for reason. I believe he can still win races and battle for championships if he does not lose his motivation again and go elsewhere. Still, if (or when?) that happens, I wish to see him in endurance racing one day - his steel nerves and driving abilities would be greatly appreciated there. Before that, however, I want to see him in a faster car, not sure Enstone can handle one more season like this next year - they seem to be very up and down all the time.

I want him in a championship winning car. Basically like what you say.

If somehow magic befalls this year, maybe he can somehow pull it off.

He has done that already in 2007, why not to do it the same way again?

In other news, I was surprised to hear that Robert Kubica has won a rallysprint event driving an Impreza a week or two ago and plans to enter more events this year. He's a man of will, I truly admire him.
