500X is built in Melfi, Italy alongside the charismatic Jeep Renegade with which it shares its platform.

Prices start from €17,000 for entry-level FWD 1.6 petrol model and end at €31,000 for top-of-the-line 4x4 with 2.0 diesel mated to a 9-speed automatic.

500X is no hardcore off-roader of course, but it can hold it's own in the slippery stuff.

I have to say, although no fan of SUVs, this is a much more successful amalgamation of 500 bits over a body than the 500L MPV.

By the way, added the start year to the thread title.

This is way, way better than the 500L. I quite like it. My wife just bought a Buick Encore and she loves the Renegade but didn't want to wait for it and when I showed her this she was bummed she hadn't waited for this either!

Reminds me of the model creep with the Mini. You start off with one and they start reproducing like cockroaches. I never like the Fiat 500, so contrary to everyone else's opinions, I hate them all equally.

I don't think the car makes much sense- the Fiats tend to be overall unreliable, the original 500 is quite small and not very cheap either.

Besides, I hate nearly all SUVs, big or small.

You are being a bit unfair to cockroach reproduction rate, don't you think?

    2007 - Fiat 500
    2012 - Fiat 500L
    2015 - Fiat 500X

That's more like a panda breeding rate (no pun intended).

Well, there's also the canvas convertible thing and the bigger, 7 seater 500L. And apparently before 2016 they'll launch a 5 door hatchback version.

But it is understandable. Much like BMW, Fiat is trying to milk the retro-chic cow as much as possible and it is bringing them nice healthy profits.

I'm not a fan of retro, but for me the biggest problem is that (unlike the Mini) there is no brilliant saving grace dynamics. So instead of a 500 it's better to get a Panda.

I'm still puzzled why they didn't use the 600 plate for the larger ones. It would certainly stop us complaining about all the 500s cashing in on the cutesy image.

Probably for the same reason BMW didn't call the big Mini the Maxi.
