Hi "M-S-N", thanks for the race info, really appreciated, and yes, I dove the cavalier with Mike in the rain stopped Bob Jane 500, we were 6th. The weather was really bad and I was in the car when it was red flagged.

Following are the results scored by Dick Johnson Racing's Ford Sierra RS500 "DJR 1" during the 1988 Australian motorsport season.

After being converted from its original RS specs to the "evolution" RS500 specs, and given a total rebuild in preparation for the 1988 season, it was handed over to new DJR driver John Bowe to race. Racing number for the Australian Touring Car Championship was "18".

Bathurst 1000, Mount Panorama, Bathurst, October 2, 1988

Entered for John Smith/Alfredo Costanzo as part of a three car DJR attack on the race. Raced with the number "18". Dick Johnson and John Bowe were cross entered, so that if either of their cars failed the could jump into the number 28 car. Both Johnson's and Bowe's cars failed before the end of the first stint. John Smith changed over to Dick Johnson, who in turn changed to John Bowe at the next driver change. Alfredo Costanzo did not race the car during the race. Heading for a late race challenge on the leader (Tony Longhurst) when its starter motor wouldn't fire up during the last pit stop. They got it going, but any chance of victory was gone, so settled for second.

Bathurst was the last race in which DJR raced the car. After this, DJR 1 was sold to Englishman Robb Gravett, who took it to the UK to race in the 1989 British Touring Car Championhip.

very interesting thread,

with your indepth info on the touring cars,

have you ever looked into chassie numbers for the sierra rs500 touring cars,


i am especialy interested in any info of the eggenberger sierra cars,

these are the touring cars in my collection,

1st car i bought was the ex tim harvey labatts sierra rs500, original in ever way as its not been used in competion since the last race of the 1990 btcc
chassie number ARE RSC 0389

2nd car i got was a eggenberger sierra rs500, history a bit slim, but black originally and chassie number 99269

eggenburger tells me it was a texaco car but can not confirm which one, so far,


3rd car was the ex rouse ex allan moffat car from the 87 bathurst, like the labatts car i have all the history for the car from rouse, chassie ARE RSC 0587


so as above any info to fill in the gaps on eggenberger chassie numbers

cars i have seen info on are 99261, 99262 , 99263 these where early 87 cars and 99269 was the car eggenberger used to win spa 24hr in 89, which bye the way is the only sierra ruedy kept!! still at his workshop.

all these are 100% eggenberger as i have seen paperwork to confirm.


looked at chassie 99266 which was a ringhausen rs500 touring car, very simular to the eggenberger cars but different cage ect as ruedy team only helped with parts and did not build them,


unlike the rouse cars where he made his own chassie numbers, eggenberger used the 909 numer that came with the bew motorsport shell,

Forgive my dreadful photography skills (or lack thereof) but in any case for those who may be interested, here's some pics I took in the pit garages at Bathurst in 1987. They show various BMW M3s undergoing final preparations including fitment of race-day engines etc on the night before the big race

i had two of my cars at this years nec the other was my labatts car on the rs owners club stand,


as TIM HARVEY was there he came over and checked out his old car once more,

p.s the ANZ car is the car i have not restored ect as i am useing this one on the ford saloons this season, so have resisted painting anything that is not to bad ect,

Hell, there is a sticker with the correct spelling (Eggenberger) inside his car, in two places!
