Is the weight dry or kerb weight?

    I suppose that its dry.

Anyway, 815 kg is pretty low, even if it's dry!

How many types of Elises is Lotus actually releasing? There must be dozens of them by now While the Elise looks good and, without a doubt, is much fun to drive, I really LOVE the Esprit though. Shame they stopped building that...

    You reckon?

I hear they are having difficulty sourcing enough Unobtanium for the extruded chassis...

Still, stay tuned for Autocar's yearly "New Esprit Unveiled!" issue.

For such a car 815kg isn't that impressive...

...especially as they claim to have removed all "non-essential" items, yet from the looks of the pics have left in the air-con unit which must weigh at least 15kg.

It's a Lotus ... aircon is essentially just a hole in the dash which just happens to be near a duct in the front clam. Aircon weight of about 20g, consisting of the little round facia ducts

This is for america, remember. Over there they suspect that any car that weighs less than 1200kg is quite likely to blow away if left out in in the open...

I know people here that also think that a heavier car is "better"...

    How wrong they are...

Check pic #5. The black box between the steering column and the ignition cut-off is Lotus' own bespoke aircon system, originally developed for the S2 111s and now an option for the Elise and Exige range. It weighs approx 15kg.

Not sure if it's standard fit on this particular model or if it's an option, but it doesn't exactly send out the right message including it in the press shots.

Wow. It looks great. I really don't mind them making so many versions of the Exige. It may be overkill, but it also makes it easier for us regular folk to get it.
