It has been proven that, even when wearing a seatbelt, you have a better chance of surviving an accident with an airbag. I never said that airbags were supposed to take the place of a seatbelt. But, there shouldn't be a complaint about a street car following federal regulations by having a factory installed airbag.

Crumple zones? Who needs 'em? They all add weight. I'd rather drive a great-handling Dixie cup. It would weight nearly nothing! Do you also complain about the weight of gas when you fill up your tank?
Yep. Tell it to the thousand whos faces have not been turned into pulp by the steering wheel or dash, or to the millions' families who have.

Been by that dealer a few times, it's just a few miles from my house as the crow flies.

My car doesn't have air bags, doesn't bother me any.

"properly adjusted" being the key word

In a road car, there's no way you can argue about the importance of the airbag.
In race cars, the airbag must be disabled as there are many bumper touches (not all that soft) wich are un inevitable part of the competition. An noone uses a 5 point harness in the road (except some ricers), so there's always some confidence added to a car fitted with airbag.

Rallying in post-historic and historic rally cars opens the eyes to the choices on belts. I've competed in cars with lap/diagonal, 3 point and 5 point.

"properly adjusted" is still the key word.

An air bag does almost nothing of the body is restrained properly by the belt properly fitted.

One of my cars doesn't have airbags, either. But, I still wouldn't buy a new car without one. I didn't say ANOTHER car, I said a new car.

And me, I'm even thinking about trading my airbagged car for one that isn't. Allthought I'd prefer if it had.

Just remebered this: my fiat as no airbag or seatbelt!

When I was a kid (here we go) we used to stand on the floor in the back of the FE and EK Holden looking over the back of the front seat. Mum used to tell us to sit down or if we had a crash we would go flying through the windscreen! Dont know what was supposed to happen when we were sitting down. Maybe a longer run up!
