    M5 as good as Toyota Aristo ?

    Wondering opinions about the M5 v Toyota Aristo(Lexus GS300)
    Best Motoring compared these 2 cars and the Toyota Aristo came out on top.
    Lap time around Tsukuba Track Aristo 1.10.68,BMW M5 1.14.26 the Aristo spanked it by 3.5 secs.The Aristo did a 1.11,7 on a damp track

    I was reading a high performance imports mag(sad,but true)stumbled across a article about the Aristo,was astounded by its performance figures round that track,nearly 4 secs quicker than a M5 admitabley a 1992 model.Also did it to get the BMW fanboys revved up

    It may be faster, but I'd rather have an M5, than a Toyota.
    Thanks for all the fish

    BMW M5 1994 e34

    253.5 kw / 340.0 bhp @ 6900 rpm

    400.0 nm / 295.0 ft lbs @ 4750 rpm

    or

    BMW M5 2001 e39

    293.8 kw / 394.0 bhp @ 6600 rpm

    498.94 nm / 368.0 ft lbs @ 3800 rpm

    Toyota Handle better than a BMW M power…. I don’t think so… I repeat the Toyota has to be tuned. Looking at the Facts its quiet impossible.

    Both cars are 1992 models,not the latest v10,with the 2jz you can buy an import here for 20k,a comparable m5 which i believe personally is better in looks,dynamics etc is still over 50 k.The aristo is good value for performance,luxury and build quality for the amount of money.

    Don't come out here calling people ignorant's, specially one's who have been around much longer than you. You just proved to UCP you know nothing about cars and never sat your back in an M5. I've driven one of those cars for a phew times and I can tell you it is insane to compare both. Ultimate speed doesn't make a car special and that Toyota (badged Lexus here) is an awfull looking car with no poise at all.
    If you ever get lucky or mature enough to drive a BMW M5, you'll understand the comments you call biased, because the simple act of starting that huge 6 in line is quite a momentum.
    Now calm down will you? Lets be polite if we want to get respect from others.

    Im going by a magazine reveiw,havent driven either,Im not saying the Toyota is better.I believe the M5 would be a better car.Why cant you compare a Japenese car and a German car,I thought that is what UCP is about comparing cars.I am in the process of building 2 club cars with my nephews and brother.I do know a tiny bit about motorcars,6 years as a diesel mechanic what experience have you has working on motor vehicles, havent had the chance of being in a M5 of any model,cant see how that makes me immature

    For those who don't know the Aristo IS the GS300 but pushing these numbers

    Max. output
    (JIS) 279.8 PS (276.0 bhp) (205.8 kW)
    @5600 rpm
    Max. torque
    (JIS) 451.0 Nm (333 lbft) (46 kgm)
    @3600 rpm

    instead of 220hp like the regular GS300 known in the States does.
    Still is pretty impressive that it was able beat an M5.

    Aye same here.

    Comparing them is to waste time...
    Why a waste of time? I bet you would have never imagined the Aristo was that capable.

    But I have to admit that I would like to see them tested by a European driver. Best motoring always shows Japanese performance cars smoking Europeans' with much more hp and class. It's just beginning to smell....
