    Group B Rally

What is your favourite Group B rally car and why?

I would have to say the Audi Quattro E2, I just love the shape of the car, the speed and agility that it posseses. Eventhough it did not dominate group b completly it is still my favourite. The E2 is still raced today in all sorts competitions including the legendery Pike's Peak Hillclimb. For a car to still be ultracompetative all this time on it surley must be one of the best race car's ever built.

    What do you think?

Lancia Delta S4. How many cars had a supercharger and a turbocharger? Not many. Probably for very good reasons, but still. It's cool. And for the record, the Quattros were probably the least agile Group B cars. Too heavy and too front-engined. Still, I think they were the most powerful of the era. I heard that Audi were working on a 1000bhp version of the engine (a 2.1 litre I5, I think), but it had a disturbing tendency to just understeer straight through corners. Not so great on a tight twisty gravel road. It's a shame Group B was just abandoned, it woulda been nice to see it shifted to sealed circuits at least.

Atleast we can still see them race on pikes peak, i have seen a few videos of the race, it is just awesome. I know of one other car that had a turbo and supercharger, the nissan march supertrubo, ever heard of it? didn't think so. it rallyed quite succesfully in japan, i know that some where imported into australia for rally use.

One does have to bow to the little RS200.

Sadly by the time it was startging shakedown it all ended.
BUT the RS200 went on to dominate rallycross where all GroupBs coudl still run unrestricted.

The 6R4 has to ge a special award for the audacity fo a Metro with LOTS of plastic and an engine used to take the XJ220 over 200 mph.

BUT all of that is just what-ifs. The 205T16 OWNED GroupB.

Audi Quattro S2. the definitive group B car

Audi brought 4WD into rallying, and changed it completely, we owe them!

Audi brought 4WD to GroupB, but Peugeot brought the specialised tubular chassis and add on plastic panels that brought the lightness and agility and ultimate highest speeds. The S2 was an aferthought to try to get the lumbersome Quattros down to try to compete ( and failed really ).

    So 2 righful honours !!!!

group b really did belong to all the fast, agile and light hatchbacks such as the T16 and 6R4, i bet they would still be able to beat almost any car in the WRC today.
