    Kit Car Insurance

Can anyone refer me to insurers that cater for specialist/kit cars in the UK? I tried a few of the normal insurers, but none of them even listed Westfield in their manufacturers. I know there's at least a couple of kit car owners on the site, so no hiding!

    Cheers in advance.

Graham Sykes worked bets for the Quantum. Their on-line has the cheapest.
    See http://www.graham-sykes.co.uk/
The others one I was recommended to check were
    Adrian Flux
    Footman James

I've only just found out that Direct Choice deal with Sabre. Mates son is insured with Sabre and he's 18, but Sykes said they weren't taking policies anymore. I'd try via Direct Choice.

Your kit car club will have best recommendations for that kit and advise on who to talk to to get the best deal. As well as getting individual advice I was also pointed to this site - http://www.totalkitcar.com for a list of insurers

EDIT: aha, found the list courtesy of Quantum Owners Club ...
    Graham Sykes 0870 444 6330
    Adrian Flux 08700 777888

Ahhh... Thanks muchly. I don't have a kit and am not a member of any clubs, but rather I wanted to get some quotes on some possibles, to see how viable an option it might be. Thanks again.

Edit: Buggrit. Sykes don't insure under 21s. Nuts.

Ah, forgot about that, the guys in the kit car club say you PHONE them and they will. I was quoted a good price for my 17 year old IF it had a Thatcham 1 alarm. So she doesn't get to drive the car until it has one
I've found HUGE discrepeancies as I've phoned aroudn for my daughter and I.
Couldn't go with Sykes' cheapest for us as she's a named driver on another policy so we don't get their 50% discount.
So as well as Thatcham, shen's getting removed from the other policy. We'll insure here - get the discount - and then add her to the other car again.
Bloody stupid and the guy at Sykes agreed
If you have an idea which kit you're thinking of it can help us guide you.
BTW, if you're thinking of a Lotus 7 copy with a Burton BDA then forget it. Mates son can't get on it till he's 25 !! So he's sticking with his Quantum and the Locost is going to be track-only for him

Hmm... Insurance confuses the hell out of me. Am I right in thinking that I can only use my NCB on one policy at a time? And what's a Burton BDA? I googled it and I gather it's an old ford engine. Most of the seven reps I've been looking at have Pinto engines in, which I believe is also an old Ford product. Same thing? Or different?

Yeah, insurers make things too damn hard. You want to try with 3 classic sports cars a kit car a 4x4 and a motorbike. you'd think somehwere they'd adccept that I can only drive one at a time. But no all seperate policies
Anywa, yes, NCB can only be on one car. BUT you can have it on a car and a bike - but not transferable between them Some insurers will allow the NCB on main policy to give a discount on another policy.
Some kit and classic insurance policies don't offer NCB, especailly the low mileage ones. So make sure and ask !!
Berton are the most respected and longest running tuners of the Ford BDA engine. Also they do loads of Pinto parts.
The BDA was THE rally race engine of choice available as 1600 cross-flow bored out to 1800 for peak performance in the RS1800 and with more money to spend to a serious 2l.

Pinto is 2l sohc. The BDA in top tune is a serious engine, espsecailly now as Burton are casting their own replacement heads and blocks in modern lighter, stronger alloys.
The Pinto is a solid engine and easily tunable. Used in the Sierra, so plenty of them around Just a bit heavy
The BDA is a more serious piece of tuned race gear from the 70s which is more expensive ( but ultimately more powerful, free revving )
The availability of parts makes the Pinto a natural choice for kits in Europe and is good for 150hp easily, which in something the weight of a 7 is pretty good perfromance

Only just found this thread. I recommend either Footman James or MSM. I got a very cheap quote from Footman James, it was about 800 quid for a 17 year old on a 1.1 crossflow. MSM because the Libra is with them and they have been very helpful and they are such nice people.
