Vauhxall Nova is just an utility car. Not meant to be a sports car or something like that. It just does it's job, and with acceptable reliability.
Unless you're wealthy (and it was you earning the money) you are overlooking cars too much. Morris Marina is s***. Nova is a car.

Hmm......worst car i drove in?

Well....here it goes, there are a few.

Opel Astra 1.4 (type A) => slow, dull design, and uncomfortable (seats like bricks).
Daihatsu Applause 1.6 16v => all plastic and plain boring.
Peugeot 405 1.9 Sri => nervous speedo (needle), the gearbox a complete drama, the suspension was too soft for my liking.

I rode in my friend's late 80's, early 90's Escort. The doors wouldn't open from the outside, the stereo was duct taped in, the door locks were missing, the back hatch lifted open easily because it didn't latch, the muffler would drag on the street, and the shocks were bad. It was poop-brown with a little color added by the rust holes in the fenders.

Oh yeah, I had a '92 Eagle Talon in high school. It wouldn't have been so bad to drive if it wouldn't have taken $1000 every month to keep it running.

To me that would be my sister's 1991 Volvo 740 Turbo.

The car was OK in handling, OK in power but the brakes were HORRIBLE! I mean you've got this turbo and intercooler thingie going and the brakes were by no means strong enough to stop the car (in any distance).

On time I had to jam on the brakes so hard I literally was in a 'standing up' position and the car was still going forward. Ended up "pumping" the brakes for all my leg's worth to stop it (but it took several hundred ft).

Had several Volvo dealers (as well as private garages) looked at it and couldn't find anything wrong with the brakes.

Now that was the worst car I've driven!

When I worked in a garage for 8 month I drove one day a Nissan Micra back to its owner... It was a 1.0 with 45hp and a automatic transmission! It was more than only horrible.... the 0-100kph time was a joke... I guess the car would need around half an hour for that... No power steering (the car was build in 1983 or so), no power at all and because of the automatic even less power... God, I was happy to go home on my bicycle that day

Wow, byron, that's odd coz they're good brakes!! Well capable of stopping the car. Suspicious of the dealership's abilities. If pumping didn't harden up the pedal then it wasn't air. Sounds like either the servo was not working or the brake pads were of cheap material If you wren't Cali I'd have said corrosion on the rear handbarke mechanism. Next most likely is corrosion on the calipers preventing them sliding properly. Shame to give a good car a bad name, but it's not too difficult to pinpoint - sounds like you've ended up with a "typical dealer mechanic" ie cr@p

Peter, since I've never driven other Volvo's I don't know how good they're suppose to be but should be this bad.

The Volvo's brakes were broken down into seperate components by several service centers and everything was good. Servos were good in giving the right air pressure, clippers were fine and pads were factory OEM parts.

Like you said, she's just got a lemon

For me it was a 1987 Cimarron by Cadillac. What a disgrace. No Cad, even in emissions-regulation hell, should be saddled with Cavalier engineering and 88hp going through an automatic. Plus it rode as hard as my Mustang, yet my Mustang (19 years OLDER, mind you) will outhandle it, no question, and with by far less drama and squeaking. What a pile of crap, Cadillac should have waited a season or two to try and re-engineer it like they did with the '75 Seville (itself based on the compact Nova platform).

I can't think of any bad cars I've ever driven, but my father told me (more than once) that the worst car he ever drove was an Audi Fox he had for a couple of years until he found someone dumb enough to by it. It was only a year old when he bought it, and it looked as if it had been looked after, but it ended up needing mechanical repairs (not sure what) three times in the first two months he had it. By the time he got rid of it, the paintwork on the roof and bootlid had crazed, the fabric at the top of the back seat had started to disintegrate, the dashboard cracked in two places, the plastic pieces at the ends of the front bumper had fallen off on the road and got lost (the chrome trim from the driver's side fell off a couple of times too, but that was retrieved and refitted) and the engine started using so much oil it had to be topped up every second time the tank was filled with petrol.

Apparently he was going to buy a new Leyland P76, but decided against it because it was too big and bought the Audi instead............

Well since I was thinking recently what was the worse car I had ever driven, I thought I'd share it with you.

Actually there's a tie. Between the Citroën DS4 and the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. Both are thoroughly ****ed up pieces of engineering, overpriced, disappointing hypes of junk. Avoid!
