nice cars..a bit odd at the rear imo, but good all the same
yeah them big u.s motor companies were scared of what would happend if he got out his cars so they did what they always did to get control of other international motor companies....blackmail, cheating and pressure(if you look at GM and ford's histories)

unfortunately DaimlerChlysler is the only honest remaining major u.s motor company(correct me if im wrong)

I'd say it was a combination of both, so I'm not going to vote either way. I think he did a lot of promising before he had anything to show for it. He sold cars before there was even a prototype built. He sold options on cars that weren't even in production yet. But, there's some pretty good evidence that Ford and GM both pushed the SEC to investigate him and punish him for questionable reasons. They had not and have not since punished a company so harshly. They seized all the assets of his company - twice.

He actually started work on a second car, a beautiful small sports cars. Unfortunately he died of cancer quickly after coming up with the design.

Sure it was ahead of it's time. Mid-engined, high horsepower, innovative safety equipment that wasn't on any other car at the time (seatbelts, padded dash, collapsable steering column), the turning headlight.

Same problem with DeLoreans. Waaay ahead of their time, taking full use of Peaugout 4 cylinders and stainless-steel nickel polish body, gullwings, etc. Since the cars were so incredible yet simple, designs could hardly be changed when moving from the 1980-81 year. 1980 was a very sucessful year for DeLorean, but by 1981, demand died out, and in 82 led John DeLorean to get busted for coke dealing.

Rotary powered engines are crap, though, so you can expect that with a part that doesn't work well, it won't sell well. My dad owned an '89 RX7 and had it in the shop every other week. A friend owned an RX8, and he too had it in the shop every week and under lemon laws got an exchange for another RX8, which too was in the shop every week. He gave it back and got a G6 instead.

Very innovative, but just like the Citroen DS etc its too ugly to be taken seriously. IMHO.

Compared to other cars at the time, I don't think it looks that outrageous.

    And the DS is beautiful!

I laughed at the seen where a bunch of the tucker cars drive around town with the cops chassing them, but they can't keep up they are way to fast for them.

Every engine has a dud few, You can't blame all rotary engines because some have problems, What about the 70-90% that are perfect from the first one built, You can't give all them stick when only some have bad problems.
