wont it actually HELP clear the allready existing CO2 since you are growing plants. (photosynthesis)

Only works with diesel though, but diesels are becoming the most popular power source for average cars.

Also - you can grow it, and it doesn't add to the ammount of carbon in the atmosphere.

Why isn't it being used now? Because BP, Shell and ExxonMobil don't have many fields of rape or sunflowers.
actually here in montreal, there are a number of buses allready running on biodiesel.
a prototype ran in 200 and it was a big success. later in 200 5 more buses were modified. now a ays its something like 20 buses running on biodiesel.

Its not so far off as some of u think. the big oil companies are the ones stoping evolution of fuells, like CS said.

    Possibly.

Plants only take in C02 in meaningful ammounts when there are a lot of them - which is why the rainforests are so important.
Most of the time plants respirate like everything else - giving off C02.

The main crux is that there is a fixed ammount of carbon on the surface of the planet - in the air, and in plants, animals etc.

By burning plants (biodiesel) you don't add to this ammount.
By digging up oil from several miles under the surface of the Earth you do.
Adding to the ammount of C02 in the system probably isn't a good idea - even if you don't believe in global warming.
    Thanks for all the fish

yes but if this source of fuel does become comon, you can believe there will be huge fields of these plants.

Can't we just buy some land and start growing rape or sunflowers? I mean, its up to us on what we do with our land right?

Trying to keep this as 'unpolitical' as I can get, nobody said that
Think about it. Neither I nor anybody in this thread said they didn't have rights to their own land. Nobody also said nobody had right to it too. (I'm being even-minded). Nobody also said anybody can come and take it with force. Nobody also said nobody cannot come and take it with force.

As you can see this creates quite a problem

It will ultmately be the world population who are not leaders that can influence anything, using weapons such as lowing economy, giving a bad name to their leader and creating mass political movements.

I'm sorry but you just HAD to start

Strangely enough I though that was what road tax was for...

There is nothing stopping you from growing rape or sunflower in your garden.

You could sell it to processing centers.
    Thanks for all the fish

I thought Gov's used traffic fines and rego tax's to fund road work ?
On a pension my mum pays about $220 a year for rego. And off the pension it's near $500. X that by 7 million cars @ $220 not $500 and bang you got a shit load there $1540000000.
