My dad called me to see if I wanted to go to this restaurant/microbrewery in the Pocono mountains. I said yes, so we went up. It's about an hour from where I live. There was a pretty big snow storm last night, we ended up with about 4-5" and the mountains got about 6-8". Der Golf was going nowhere in all its summer tire glory, so we took the 'Lanche. The brewery was a bust. Expensive food + lame bottling area = no pictures worth posting.
But it's what we did afterward that was worth it. We were 10 miles from Pocono Raceway. We both said we couldn't get this close and not go.
For those not in the know, Pocono Raceway is a 2.5 mile track, with 3 distinct turns and 3 distinct straightaways. Yes, it's a triangle. Turn 1 is banked at 14*, turn 2 (the tunnel turn) is banked 8*, and turn 3 is a long sweeper banked 6*. This track is notoriously hard to set up for, as none of the turns are the same. A car that handles well in 1 and 2 will probably end up loose in 3. It makes for some interesting racing.
Back to the story. We turn down Long Pond Road which runs past turn 3 and the short shoot straightaway, and get to turn 2. Earnhardt Road. As good a place as any. After a brief photo shoot, we hopped back in the truck. "Yo, we should do some donuts..." "OK." Four wheel drive engaged, my dad gave it some gas and an abrupt left turn. DORIFTOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!11shift11 After we got bored of that (and after the very nice State Trooper stopped and looked at us) we decided we'd had enough. So we left.
Snow + FWD = boring. Snow + AWD = weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
Fear the stone-cold killa in pic 3.
