Ford Sierra transmission swap for MG's

Is this a common thing over in England where both cars are popular? I went to a garage today that specializes in transmission overhauls and swaps, one swap was putting in a ford sierra 5-speed with a custom cast aluminum bellhousing. One thing the guy was working on was putting a ford focus ztec(I think that's it) into a MG B

Yeah the Ford Type9 and letere MT75 ( IIRC ) is a very common box to use as there are LOTS of cogs available for it and it's pretty bulletproof in a smller car. Used in the the XR4s and Cosworths.
There are LOADS of bellhousings already around to mate them to pretty much every engine Burton charge about $500.
If he was putting a Zetec with the 'box the bellhousing is very common and a fraction of the price.

You also see folks putting the K-series engine in a lot and the Vuaxhall 2L or the Pinto or full-on BDAs, see a Toyota dropped in one too, cant' say Iv'e seen a Honda yet . Then THEY shift. Sadly do any of these adn the car becomes inelligible for classic and post-historic events
