    they say that Finnish is really closely related to Turkish (and other Turkic languages) and Japanese, is tehre any truth to this?

    Finnish is related to estonian & hungarian, so its an ugrian language and really original, if I remeber correctly they sortof make a whole own branch in the language three... I don't see any (geological) way how finnish could be related to the Japane laguage, and I think the Turkich are far fetched too. I've heard that the language originates somewhere from central asia though. But it was back in the time when most languages was one anyways.
    It is sort of interesting how we in Finland speak Finnish and Swedish, a germanian language, like english and how the finnish language is taking influeces from them... (and russian too which is a language of its own)

    So shortly, I havn't heard of it, but it isn't impossible. Not in the recent times though.
