    3 door diesel

Right, my mate is looking for a 3 door diesel. He is willing to spend £5,000 on one.
I have recommended he looks for a Focus, most likely a 1.8 TDCi, which is apparently the best in it's class for that price.

    any suggestions?

I'd say 118d, but I think it's slightly out of budget...

At least stay clear of anything VAG.

I think for Five thousand Pounds, you'd not do badly to look at something French.

I think that the Focus is the most sensible car to get if it fits within the budget. But I do think that Peugeot 206, Opel Corsa or a Fiesta or a Clio with around 60k km on the clock will more easily fit the budget.

So a Fiat Stilo Dynamic 1.9JTD or Alfa Romeo 147 1.9JTDm/1.9JTD 16v Lusso is out of the question?

    Yes.

If you are buying a Fiat what you have to do is specify the smallest engine available and a manual.

    Except if it's an Abarth.
