Maybe they can get one of those big jets they have lying about at Bruntingthope and blow the car down the runway

Thanks for all the fish
Na, all you need is some nawz stickerz .. that'll make it go to 200 in 1 second
I'm pretty sure the Lingenfelter 427TT Vette has it, 1.97 IIRC.
Yeah, I think it still holds that record. And to continue the modified car records, 1/4 mile record of 8.73 seconds for the Hennessey Venom.Originally Posted by Smokescreen

I saw 2.7 in R&T, and I believe a 10.7 1/4. I don't have the magazine in front of me, that's just what I remember.
10.7 in the 1/4 mile in a stock car?! JESUS!Originally Posted by Smokescreen

According to this site, and from info I've read, the '68 S/S Hemi-Dart and Barracudas are still the all-time fastest 1/4 mile acclerating cars.
(Yes, they were production-line cars with about 70-80 of each being built at a cost of around $4,500.) They used the race Hemi which had a higher compression ratio than the street Hemi (12.5:1 VS 10.25:1), a wilder cam, headers, and a very low rear axle ratio. These cars came with functional lights and windsheild wipers, so they could be street driven. In fact, I've seen a couple at car shows that were driven off the street.
Note on the list that the #3 spot is held by a '69 ZL-1 Corvette. All right!... three American cars make the top spots!

Right at the top of that site it says, and I quote, "Accurate: not necessarily."Originally Posted by Fleet 500

BTW, I've seen a few people here list 0-60 mph times as the basis for accleration. While it is a helpful measurement, the 1/4 mile is usually the official way of rating a car's performance. 0-60 mph only shows a car's low-to-mid range performance.

Yes, but other sources verify many (or most) of the cars on that list.Originally Posted by Rockefella
For instance, the Ford Thunderbolts were low-12/high-11 sec cars, as quite a few muscle cars magazines have stated.
Another magazine said the '69 ZL-1 Corvette came without a heater and ran 11s.
Yet another magazine (and car books) report that the Max Wedge Mopars were good for 12-second 1/4 miles.
All of these show up on the list with similar times.
Besides, where can you really find a list that is 100% accurate?

I suppose if you are Jesus, or indeed god, that 1968 could be classed as "current"
Thanks for all the fish
I was just showing CdocZ that there were cars built which were even faster than 10.7 1/4 miles.
Yeah, the classics aren't current cars, they're just faster!

Those look like fairly correct times to me, and they are definitely ridiculously fast.Originally Posted by Fleet 500

More stats (just for the hell of it):
0-102km/h (60mph): 2.6 seconds
0-200km/h (124mph): 7.2 seconds
Top Speed: 404km/h (251mph)
What about that one Lingenfelter Corvette that does 0-60 in 1.7 seconds
I'm not sure if its street legal though? But my cousin has seen in on the track before for sure.

Remember, though, that all of the cars in that list are production cars with stock (not modified) engines, and could be street-driven.Originally Posted by Egg Nog
The world's fastest super stock car is also the Hemi-Mopars... the fastest of these are running in the high 8s.
