does that sign say it had a 4.89:1 diff ratio, or was the part code just 489. Becuase that would explain the fast 400m times

It is the rear axle ratio.
According to an article, those equipped with automatics had 4.86:1 and those with four-speed manuals used 4.88:1. I don't know why the sign says 4.89.
The same article said they have a copy of the sales contract showing a $4,695 price tag.

It was a loophole law. The Hemi-Darts and Barracudas came with functional headlights and windshield wipers and I've seen at least two at cars shows which were driven in off the street. Remember, there were many convertibles made with plastic back windows. There was very little ground clearance between the ground and the oil pan, but jacking up the front torsion bars would take care of that.

hmm ok i can see that for sure..but still they were never meant for the street..but then again i guess enzos arent either and that doesnt make them any less street legal

I don't think those 917s are/were street legal.

I know a guy who has a 8.3 second mustang that does 0-60 in even less time then that dam vette and its street legal. If you count a car that was built by a tuner you gotta count greg's mustang.
