Mates dad trading in his AU XR8 Rebel in..

Hes decided to get a Boss 260 BA XR8 so yeah hes trading it in. If it was me though I would've spent the money on trading up on getting the AU to 260kw's...

    Opinions?

The BA's a much better chassis for tuning. Although an AU has no problems handling 260kw and it might end up cheaper than trading in, the 302 is a pretty rough engine and theres not much scope past 250kw before looking at either a stroker kit or a supercharger.

He might not like the extra front end weight of the XR8 though, or the feeling of a lack of power under 4000rpm which can be fixed with ~$1500 on the ECU and some new springs/dampers

I'd say buy a Holden first

But yeah the BA is the better with more options on performence and handling

Also, the AU is hella ugly, BA is better looking. Especially from the front. Not pretty by any means, but a vast improvement.

If you ever had a AU you always wanted it to be the XR or T series. They looked ok cause they worked on that look

Well this IS on an XR, late series 2 REBEL with the Ford Racing bodykit that was optional on the AU3's and 18" wheels that i think came off a series 1 T series.....So it was one of the better looking ones....

Spaz, is he a dedicated V8 man, and in that case would never look at an XR6T? They can be $5K cheaper than an XR8, which can be well spent on mods such as the ECU, exhaust, injectors and valve springs and youre looking at an easy 250rwkw, let alone 250 at the engine

He did look at a XR6t but he wanted the feeling and sound of V8 ownership so yeah...

You'll still get the feeling from the XR6T, its got heaps more low down than the XR8 and they still sound pretty good. Hopefully though he at least tests them both back to back

I seen a chip for a XR6T For about $900? Was about 280kw with 500+ Nm at a guess thats is i will need to look it up to be 100% sure.

Sounds like a generic chip, which arent always the best. If youre looking for good power and response, you really want to get a custom tune which might take all day and cost a few extra hundred on labour. That way you know the chips tuned to your individual car

Yeah, Powerchip arent anything really fancy. Not only that, no XR6T will make 300kw as reliable as it makes 240kw just from the chip. You really need to replace the valve springs and injectors to make sure you dont get any issues and you can have performance right up to 6000rpm, otherwise you have to compromise the last 1000rpm's performance.
